College Binge Drinking I was shocked to overhear my sons comment when he come home from college. He said, “College students are drinking to get drunk, that is their only mission for the night.” Binge drinking among teenage college students has become a huge problem in our nation. Binge drinking has become an enormous problem on campus; not only because of the risks but also because of the problems that go along with it. Binge drinking will bring on problems such as; depression, anxiety, and being impulsive. Webster New Explorer Dictionary defines binge drinking as an act of excessive Consumption of alcohol.
Binging: Headed for Devastation? Alcoholism has been considered to be something of a mass epidemic and is inevitable because of the rigid grip it holds on Americans today, especially teenagers. While various teens experience the urge to binge drink because of circumstances, others feel the need simply for potential new friends or popularity. It is no contest when comparing high school drinkers to that of collegiate binge drinkers because with age and freedom comes rash decisions made only by those mentally weak and insecure. Binge drinking among college students is indeed a colossal crisis which in itself asks for serious attention on all aspects.
If we are lowering the age of drinking to 18 then many high school student will be freely start drinking and go to the club and spend the money. They have not started to earn, so they are going to spend the money of their parents. In the USA children after age 18 should start to earn by themselves, so if they spend the money in the alcohol then their parents are not going to support them. In the contrast, opposing people say that how can lowering the age affect the education. The children of the other country are not having any problem with the education.
The Devil's Advise: Drunk Driving Drunk driving or in other words “driving under the influence”. Is driving a motor vehicle with high blood levels of alcohol over the legal limit. Police made 1,467,300 arrests in The United States; for driving under the influence of alcohol Just in the year 1996. People give drunk driving a bad reputation. Congressmen and Senators passed laws like alcohol limit's and even groups like MADD (mother's against drunk driving) or SADD (students against drunk driving) who are against drunk driving.
In recent years, Australian teenagers of both genders are consuming to much alcohol, leading to 87,665 uncontrolled accidents such as falling over and breaking limbs, hitting their heads, getting into fights and having traffic accidents. To prevent those impulsive actions and to protect adolescents, the government put tax on pre-mixed drinks, the most preferred alcohol drink among teenagers. As you can see in the graph, the original supply curve is S and after the tax, which is 70 percent of its original price, the supply curve shift to the left dramatically from S to S+T, since only when the sales price goes up by the same amount as tax, will there be the same amount of suppliers willing to produce the same good. The equilibrium point changes
Evidence it can work/FACT/citations: A teen from Kentucky University said that “Yes, lowering that drinking age would help because it wouldn’t be seen as the forbidden fruit, and it would be less tempting” 3. Drawbacks (cons/negatives): Lowering the drinking age will make alcohol less of a taboo, take away the thrill that many young people get from breaking the law, and make alcohol consumption a more normalized activity done in moderation. B. Possible Solution #2 - Lowering the drinking age in general would be more of a success than the 21-age law. 1.
Plans to Eliminate College Binge Drinking Nearly half of today’s college student population is stumbling through the college years due to binge drinking. Binge drinking on college campuses isn’t just an issue of public health, but it’s one of self-interest. Failure to act in the face of foreseeable harm places schools at risk for damaging their academic reputations and liability lawsuits in millions of dollars. Also, students experience a wide variety of alcohol related problems including hangovers, blackouts, and engaging in unplanned sexual activity. According to Lini Kadaba’s article, Colleges Hitting the Bottle Binge Drinking Remains High, but Initiatives at Area Schools Raising Awareness, “College binge drinking is remaining in colleges due to the intractable problems that contribute to 1,700 student deaths, 599,000 injuries, and 97,000 cases of sexual assault, or date rapes.” (24).
American Drinking Age: Stupid and Dangerous Alcohol consumption in America has always been a touchy subject. Since the founding of America, drinking has been a part of everyday life. However, the side effects of alcohol has made it an easy target by different groups throughout history. The battle between these two groups have created the atmosphere and problem present in most America schools, both at the high school level and college--binge drinking. There are many theories as how to solve the epidemic of binge drinking.
A person's motor of functions is impaired; yet, because of alcohol's depressant effect that person will feel less inhibited and more self confident about themselves. As a result a person, after having consumed alcohol, is more likely to engage into high-risk situations which would normally be avoided or treated cautiously. Sara was assumed to be over the legal intoxication limit and proven here, her ability to understand or treat the incident normally was effected. Keegan stated that Sara and Karen engaged in a binge drinking contest. Binge drinking can cause blackouts, memory loss and anxiety.
Drunk driving has become one of the leading causes for deaths in America. Consuming alcohol in excess amounts impairs judgment, therefore when consumers binge drink it often leads to them choosing to get into a car and driving while intoxicated. This does not only put the consumer at risk but it dangers the other passengers in the car and anyone on the road at that given time. Every day, almost 30 people in the United States die in motor vehicle crashes that involve an alcohol-impaired driver. This amounts to one death every 48 minutes.
