On that day, United States President, Woodrow Wilson, went to Congress and asked for a declaration of war against Germany. The proposal sent the United States into the First World War. The Allied Nations were under continuos attack by the German forces and losing ground quickly. The United States was under serious pressure to provide major help. President Wilson had to devise a plan that would provide the Allied Nations with their materials, supplies, food, and fresh troops.
More critically, the combined Chateau-Thierry/Belleau Wood action brought to an end the last major German offensive of the war. The French name for the wood, Bois Belleau, was subsequently officially renamed Bois de la Brigade de Marine, in honour of the Marine Corps's tenacity in its re-taking. Shortly after assuming the title of German führer in 1934, Hitler moved to consolidate his rule by controlling the German people through carefully orchestrated propaganda campaigns. • Erwin Rommel (1891-1944) In January 1944, Rommel was made commander in chief of all German armies from the Netherlands to the Loire River. Some themes that I can connect from this event is, in the face of evil and destruction soldiers remain soldiers. This means that even with war in their face, soldier will remain strong and they preserver through. Another theme that can connect with this event is war can only can pain and suffering.
Historical Background World War I, also known as The Great War, was an international conflict lasting from 1914 to 1918. The driving force that led nations to war was imperialism. It was fought between the Central Powers (consisting mainly of Germany, Austria-Hungary, and Turkey) and the Allied Powers (consisting mainly of France, Great Britain, Italy, Russia, Serbia, the United States, and Japan). The United States maintained neutrality in the conflict until 1917, when war on Germany was officially declared. American military and economic contributions to the Allied war effort helped to turn the course of the war and eventually led to the defeat of the Central Powers.

On April 6th 1917 the United States entered into WW1, which would be known as one of the worst wars in history. WW1 began in 1914 when a Serbian nationalist murdered Duke Franz Ferdinand, the heir to the Austria-Hungarian empire. At this point in time Europe was divided into two main alliances. The Triple entente, France, Britain, and Russia, and the Triple alliance of Germany, the Austria-Hungary Empire and Italy. After the attack on the archduke, Germany pledged to support the Austro-Hungarian government in its retaliation to the assassination.

For his battlefield he chose the fortress-ringed city of Verdun, a position, he correctly believed, so essential to the French that France would fight to the last man to hold it. He hoped to lure French forces into the narrow, dangerous salient, laughter them with artillery fire and thus “bleed France to death.” He was the first commander to state clearly that the aim of an offensive was attrition though he did not tell his field army commander, the Crown Prince, this. On February twenty-first, the German barrage began and for the next ten months both sides threw soldiers and shells at each other in a nightmare of death. The German Army bled as well. As Verdun was a symbol of life for France, it's fall became a moral necessity for the prestige of the German Army.
Abraham Lincoln Lincoln was considered one of our most important president in American history. Abraham Lincoln spent his last ten years of his life by doing political and military actions that changed history forever. Lincoln spent 1856-1858 by challenging Stephen Douglas to exactly seven debates mostly about slavery. Lincoln also fought for the presidency in 1860 again with Stephen Douglas from the Eastern frontier. Lincoln also proposed military action on slavery by passing the Emancipation Proclamation on January 1, 1863 that made not one slave free from the South.
The formal unification of Germany into a politically and administratively integrated nation stateofficially occurred on 18 January 1871 at the Versailles Palace's Hall of Mirrors in France. Princes of the German states gathered there to proclaim Wilhelm of Prussia as Emperor Wilhelm of the German Empire after the French capitulation in the Franco-Prussian War. Unofficially, the transition of most of the German-speaking populations into a federated organization of states occurred over nearly a century of experimentation. Unification exposed several glaring religious, linguistic, social, and cultural differences between and among the inhabitants of the new nation, suggesting that 1871 only represents one moment in a continuum of the larger unification processes. The Holy Roman Empire of the German Nation, which had included more than 300 independent states, was effectively dissolved when Emperor Francis II abdicated (6 August 1806) during the War of the Third Coalition.
