When we went out of the patient’s room, I felt a little strange so I asked my buddied nurse: "Do we need to watch patient eat there pills before we leave". She said: "This patient has been here for a long time. I know she will eat the medications". After my buddied nurse told me her reason, I didn’t say anything, but now I feel very sorry. If the time can go back, I will help the patient eat all of the medications before I leave.

In April of 2003, I was deployed to Iraq during Operation Iraqi Freedom. On the day after Bagdad fell, my partner and I had been treating injured civilians. After treating patients for about 13-14 hours straight, I was finally about to sit down to eat something. Just as I opened my Meal, Ready to Eat (MRE), I heard a voice say, “Doc, we got one more for you.” I sighed heavily, put my MRE down and began to get up. As I looked up, I saw the little girl that would assure me that I would be in the medical field for the rest of my life.

Because of her unconditional willingness to take care of me, I have learned that in life it is important to consider others and not merely focus on your personal interests. This has pushed me to take care of my little sister more attentively and to help my mother around the house so that she doesn’t have to do everything herself. A few years ago, I got sick with the flu only a couple of days before my grandmother was set to travel back to Lebanon. My mother had work, my sister had school and my grandmother was suppose start packing. However, almost the entire two days she stayed by my side making me warm soups and teas, ensuring I was comfortable and keeping me company.
Starting school at 11:30 in the morning would be great. You would have plenty of sleep time and wake up and be able to do thing you wouldn’t be able to do now. For example not having to rush when you’re taking a shower, you have time to take out your conditioner and not leave some in like some of the girls do. Another thing you would have time to do is eat a delicious and healthy breakfast. You could also have time to finish your homework if you couldn’t the night before.
