Shon Webb EDU-101-52 Clinical Experience Clinical Experience On my First day of work as a Teacher Assistant I entered into my classroom ready to start my day yet I knew would be on pins and needles. I was nervous and excited all at the same time. I really didn’t know what to expect or what I was to do with the children all day. So I decided to sit back and observe the children to see what it was they did during class time. After I got an idea of what their routine and structure of the classroom that the teacher had in place I became extremely more excited to know that I could actually do this. As the days went by I learned more activities to do and fun activities to help the children learn. By my third week I was writing lesson plans and learning what the correct benchmarks were to make sure that my lesson plan consisted of each section we needed for teaching the children. Now time came for me to actually teach a lesson to the children and the lead teacher as an assistant to me. The Children were responsive to me during my lesson they were eager to tell me what they knew and what they had learned the week before. There were many things I needed to learn and do in the classroom still. I was able to just help in the beginning with most of the paper work but I was required to write one lesson plan a month. I was also required to write observations and anadoctals on each individual child. This seemed repetitive to me at first but each task had a meaning for it, which I learned very quickly. I never knew a teacher or teacher assistant had so much paper to do. You have to document everything and yet still find the time to do lesson…show more content…
By the end of my first school year I was well trained on any and everything that needed to be done in a classroom. I also learned that you can excessive borrow and more borrow from other teachers ideas to help you in your classroom. The classroom setting of early head start children can take a little getting used to but in my opinion if you are a parent It won’t take long. In my case it actually felt like home and knowing that I was able to help and guide a child in their social and emotional growth as well as a path of learning. While also making it fun for them to learn and grow has no better
