Meta ethics tries to make sense of the terms and concepts used in ethical theories such as Utilitarianism and Natural Law. Some people believe that ethical language is extremely meaningful as they argue it is essential to be able to define terms such as “good” and “bad” before we can even begin to discuss ethical theories. However others disagree with this and argue that moral statements are subjective so are meaningless, as they cannot be described as either true or false. Those who hold cognitive theories about ethical language would argue that ethical statements are not meaningless as they are about facts, and can therefore be proved true or false. Ethical Naturalism is a cognitive theory of meta ethics which holds the belief that
Meta-Ethics is a branch of ethics which is concerned with the language that is used in ethical arguments. Many would say that if we do not know what we are talking about, then there is not point to ethical debate. This differs from normative which deicides whether or not something is bad or good and gives us a guide for moral behaviour. Meta-ethics is about normative ethics and tried to make sense of the terms and concepts used. The terms good and bad are used a lot in day to day sentences - but what do they really mean?
You can be honest without telling people exactly what you are thinking, because some things are better left unsaid. Trust / Reliability Trust is something I truly value in one´s character. I learned it the hard way that not everyone can be trusted and trust needs to be earned. Reliability is under the same category. In decision making one needs to have earned trust so the decision itself can be relied on.
There are also some blind spots that I need to watch out for. I tend to set unrealistic goals and have too high of expectations for others, including myself. Personal ethics is something an individual believes to be morally right or wrong. It is important for someone to have a firm grasp on his or her personal ethics because that is what will lead them through life. If someone cannot recognize what they morally believe in, than they will go through life making
Morals concern what is right and wrong. Right and wrong usually vary depending on what is normal in a specific culture or society. Many people would agree that what is “right” is moral, but it is James Rachels that explores what makes something right. Rachels argues that it is the cultural normality’s of a society itself, that makes an action morally right, while others would disagree and claim that there is a set of “universal moral codes” that people should live by. In different societies and cultures what is morally right and wrong can be determined only within the individual mind of a person.
Ethical perspective is not always about making everyone happy, because it is virtually impossible to make everyone happy. Ethical perspective is more focused on making the best decision for the good of all individuals involved as well as setting the standard in future situations. These ethical lenses helped to influence my decisions based on the information that was provided. It allowed me to be fair and just towards all individuals concerned as well as guide provide me with the proper steps to
My ethical blind spot is my belief that motive justifies the method or overconfidence in the process. I rely too much on the system of ethics and to do what it is supposed to do, but I can overcome this by thinking outside of the box and understanding that the system itself is imperfect. It is designed that way intentionally so that it can be adjusted for each individual that follows it. The system is designed to bend not break so that we all come to the same result we just might take a different path to get to it. For example, copy right laws if you use an artist song to make a track of your own but it has pieces of their song in it you must give them credit by posting a disclaimer with it or risk being sued.
It varies from place to place. Humans are humans, and so we should view things the same. But there are outside influences in cultures that make us see the discussed views differently. There is no truth in defining what is just and unjust but we are persuaded by believing what is in our morals by following the evidence, logic and reasoning behind each argument made. The author says “and one ought to bring up the question whether it is those who are sane or those who are demented who speak at the right moment”.
As well, “Sentimentality” which is a literary device used to make people respond emotionally, but usually in a way more than is needed. Both are types of propaganda techniques that have been used by many companies because the hidden messages work pretty well for them. I feel that the use of these techniques can be essential for this company because they make people think the company is promoting healthy foods, which will lead to healthy bodies and at the same time they support the idea that quick meals can be healthy too. For these reasons the customers will buy their products. Now, many people look for ways to utilize their life schedules to the maximum.
Personal Ethical Statement My personal ethical statement Referencing to the ethical inventory I fall under the rights and responsibility lens, It states that I use reasoning skills to determine my duties as well as the universal rules that each person should obtain and follow. My core values are autonomy and rationality over equality. I tend to lean towards protecting the rights of individuals and I am not swayed into believing that individuals should be able to do what they believe is to be right even if others claim that the results are not fair for everyone in the community. I tend to moderately prefer rationality over sensibility. I also find that I use reason to find the rules of life but my actions are tempered my sensibility, being flexible as I strongly follow my intuition and heart.
