Santoine Key SOS/111/A Reflection of the class 2/2 Of the Final Exam 05/02/2013 This course was by far the best class not only throughout my spring semester, but throughout my entire college experience so far. This course taught me the true meaning of slavery, and most of all how to have power over “MY” society. I took African-American studies last year and it was very informal. I thought I knew everything about slavery and our history as black people, but when I took this class I found that to be different. I have talked too many of my fellow colleagues who took this class with a different professor, and none of them really learned the basic principles on how to have power over their society. With clips like Goodbye Uncle Tom, Hidden Colors, and Children’s March I have grown to be more appreciative of the freedom’s that we have today. With slides that you have provided for us in class I have grown to know that I am a spirit, I have a soul, and I live in a body. I also have learned how traumatic events effect a person’s actions after the tragedy has occurred. One project that mostly stuck out to me was the truth about Hip-Hop. This project changed my whole approach on not only how I viewed Hip-Hop differently, but on how I saw music as a whole. With the secret codes, and satanic meanings that some Music Artists represent, it almost makes me not want to listen to anything but gospel music. Overall, throughout this course I was introduced to anthropology, how the present day economy works, and black history. In addition to that, I was taught and introduced to some of the pressing issues facing American society today such as: enormous budget deficit, crime and violence, racism and sexism, poverty, powerlessness, and homelessness.
