Romeo and Juliet Aren’t the Ones to Blame In modern society we find ourselves pressured to impress people and keep people happy. Yet, how do we find a balance to make ourselves happy while making sure everyone around us is also happy? Today, we also struggle to find a strong love without people wanting to ruin it. A similar situation occurs in the play, “Romeo and Juliet”. Shakespeare created 2 star-crossed who struggle to find balance with their love without upsetting those around them who disapprove. The play focuses on their love along with others around them that affect their everyday lives. This issue leads to future problems that surface in the play such as their own deaths. For example, he is responsible for the death of Mercutio, which causes a vengeful spark to rise in Romeo. After Tybalt stabs Mercutio he turns to Romeo and says, “I am hurt. A plague on both your houses” (121). Tybalt killing Mercutio is one of the actions that lead up to the death of Romeo and Juliet. Tybalt had no reason for fighting with him. This death causes Romeo to seek revenge. Revenge that will later get him in trouble. Tybalt had no business stirring up trouble when Romeo was trying to be nice. Next, the threats Tybalt sends Romeo also lead up to the suicides and the cause of death. Tybalt approaches Romeo and tries to start a fight by saying, “Romeo the love I bear thee can afford no better term than this: thou art a villain” (119). The constant threats Tybalt sends Romeo endanger his own family. Romeo was told if a family member of his or himself gets in Tybalt swore to himself that he would seek revenge on Romeo for crashing the party. Tybalt’s threats eventually become a full out issue for Romeo. This leads to the next point. Last, the banishment of Romeo that was indeed Tybalt’s fault. After Romeo killed Tybalt, The Prince announces the punishment of Romeo’s actions, “And for that offence, immediately we do exile him hence”(129). For instance, they are clueless the whole play of what Juliet is doing and how she feels. Capulet the clueless says to Paris, “Look you, she loved her kinsman Tybalt dearly and so did I” (153). Capulet even thinks that Juliet is stuck morning over the death of her cousin when she is truly morning of the exile of her love. Lady Capulet does not even know her own daughters age. Their oblivion to the whole situation causes a big issue such as the deaths of Romeo in Juliet. Then, Capulet decides to rush things by pushing up the wedding between Paris and Juliet. After Juliet apologizes he says, “Send for the counly. Go tell him of this. I’ll have this knot knit up tomorrow morning” (189). By rushing things he screws up Juliet’s plan. She now has to fake her death sooner in hopes that Romeo will still get the information in time. Sadly, Romeo does not get the information in time. If Capulet had not moved up the wedding the Juliet and Romeo could have happily escaped together. Finally, the family feud between the Capulet’s and the Montague’s. During the beginning of the story the chorus gives us a story overview by saying, “From forth the fatal loins of these two foes a pair of star crossed lovers take their life” (7).
