Everybody has their own individual thoughts and preferences to their favourite part of the day and within this poem Billy Collin goes into detail about why the mornings are his favourite. The major themes within this poem are morning, happiness, tranquillity, routine and coffee. Billy Collins uses imagery throughout Morning to convey the theme of happiness. One example of this are the multiple images conveyed throughout the poem, particularly within the third stanza. “This is the best – throwing off the light covers, feet on the cold floor, and buzzing around the house on espresso –“.
Being in the hotel industry ill relate all of his examples and ideas in delighting my guests. Like …. Each an every guest walking in my lobby is a potential guest, How to read the mind of my guest?, taking quick decisions when in emergency, solving guest complaints by thin slicing, How do I know, what my guests really need?, I will also use the principle of blink in selecting my staff/associates.. Viewers are then allowed into J.D.’s thoughts where he resultantly says, “...maybe it was the free muffins for life but Doctor Kelso still hangs out here every day.” From J.D.’s deliverance of this line, the audience sees J.D.’s comically sarcastic nature. In fact, his intrapersonal narration that is used frequently throughout the show gives the comic relief that defines the show. Also, because the Intrapersonal technique is utilized in this specific situation along with others, viewers are exposed to intimate thoughts that in any other circumstance would not be revealed. Before Kelso is confronted by Ted, he enters the shop going about his daily routine. From his light hearted
Coffee is an innocent enough substance, but it represents so much more than just a refreshing drink that wakes you up. When coffee is present, people talk. They socialize, gossip, and provide news. In the government camp, Weedpatch, the Joad family gets settled in. The first morning there Tom wakes early and finds another family getting ready for their day.
Where as all the nosey neighbors quickly interfere with phone calls and tea parties, Edward soon becomes a walking celebrity as he dazzles them with his talent on making there gardens, dogs and selves stunning with his hands, his scissorhands. Fame doesn’t change Edward as a person. He remains his self-conscious, loving self and through the blur of change he falls in love with Mrs. Bogg’s beautiful and delicate daughter, Kim (Winona Ryder). ‘Edward Scissorhands’ may have a tale of the original ‘Frankenstein’ but in my mind it has a twist of ‘Beauty and the Beast’. Unfortunately, not everything can go well for to long, Kim’s threatened boyfriend, Jim (Anthony Michael Hall) causes trouble for Edward and a gossiping neighbor goes to far and rumors fly through the roof.
A successful story should be something that makes you think and wonder how you can relate to it in your life. In ‘Looking for Alibrandi, I think, many people who read it can relate too some of the feelings felt by Josie. Some of the common relations to the book people have are, John Barton’s suicide and how Josie grieved or to the hilarious situation of ‘the Hot Pants magazine quiz’ at the beginning of the book and how Josie attempted to get out of being caught, as everyone would try to do in her situation. ‘Looking for Alibrandi’ I think was successful of achieving the expectations that a reader expects in a novel. One of the expectations of a successful novel is ‘Entertainment’ this is needed to keep a reader amused and not bored with the book.
In the land of learning lived all the gods and goddesses that control every aspect of learning. One day, the god of pop vending machines, Poppe Vedor, was taking a little stroll when he found him self wandering through the land of learning. Now, Poppe Vendor was always thinking of new ideas and he came across an idea that he thought was fantastic for schools. He thought that if pop machines were in schools, then students would pay more attention in school because they would be energized by caffeine. .
When one learns new things in life, one will be successful. Whether somebody is a musician, architect, mathematician, teacher, or doctor everyone uses reading as a form of communication and documentation. Reading is everywhere from street signs, to billboards, picture books, magazines, internet sites, and even instruction labels. We can only be successful from reading by learning and studying and expanding our brain to remember more books and key points for tests and everyday life. For example, in the essay “Reading Ourselves and the World Around Us” Alberto Manguel says, “I had seen, over and over again, the letters that I knew were the names of the pictures under which they sat”(5).
| Book Review | | English 135 | | Book Review | | English 135 | Professor Lisa Shuchter July 22, 2012 Professor Lisa Shuchter July 22, 2012 A good book to me is one that can catch my attention from the first sentence and keep my attention throughout the entire book. I love well written books that I can visualize with as I am reading. I love an author that can use words and phrases to keep me guessing throughout the book, it gives me the urge to want to know what is going to happen next. I want to keep reading to get to the end to fully understand what the author’s purpose is. I love a story that is very detailed because it gives me the chance to place myself in the story and really get into it.
Ever since I can remember I have loved books and reading, I have always spent my summers and any other free time I have curled up with a good book. Books have a way of taking you away from reality and pulling you into the lives of the characters sometimes (usually) making our world and lives seem incredibly drab in comparison. I have gone through many phases with books, gradually having a harder and harder time finding a new read from the public library. By the time I was 11, I had made it through all of “The Amazing Days of Abby Hayes” novels, all the “Dear Diary” historical fiction novels, the entire “Series of Unfortunate Events” series, every single novel ever written by “Beverly Cleary” (my most favourite author at the time) and every one of “The Little House on the Prairie” novels, I had absolutely no idea what to read next or
