Kristi Oldaker Topic Identification Bus 600: Management Communication with Technology Tools Dr. Lee Meadows June 9, 2012 Supervisor-subordinate communication is imperative to a business and can determine the success of one’s employees. If there is lack of communication between a supervisor and an employee or several employees it can be detrimental to a business. The success of one’s employees is heavily weighted on communication between the supervisor and the subordinate. Communication can affect one’s morale, trust, and performance on the job. When one’s morale and trust is diminished, then job satisfaction goes with the morale and trust; and with that goes the willingness to work.
Staffing Challenges In today’s competitive market, organizations not only strive to increase productivity, improve service, and adapt to new technology to gain a competitive edge, they also compete for highly skilled employees. Regardless of the size of the organization, staffing is a critical function that could cost an organization dearly if the wrong decisions are made during the hiring process. Staffing an organization is one of the most critical functions in Human Resources (HR). Hiring and retaining skilled employees is a key element in the success of any organization and is considered the underlying effectiveness of an organization (Heneman & Judge, 2010). Staffing is defined as “the process of acquiring, deploying, and retaining a workforce of sufficient quantity and quality to create positive impacts on the organizations effectiveness” (Heneman & Judge, 2010, pg 8).
Stress, depression, and anxiety in the workplace, as well as at home, are more predominant than ever (Vesely, 2012, para.4). However, the main causes from this come from being employed in today’s competitive and unstable workforce. In order to bring this paradox full circle, a certain type of benefits program has evolved over time to help businesses keep the employees they have. It also keeps those employees productive and positive, whether it regards issues dealing with work, or life. This benefit program is known as the Employee Assistance Program (EAP).
It seems that Gap understood the importance of its worker’s welfare as stated by various sources including their own research coming from the Social Responsibility Report, and outside interests such as activist investors and the United States Against Sweatshops (USAS). Gap found to better understand and to grasp the enormity of the problem it had with such things as ethical employment practices and working conditions, a complete an analysis of their factories and outlets in regard to (working) conditions was necessary. Global corporate citizenship means that companies must not only be engaged with stakeholders but are stakeholders themselves alongside governments and civil society. Since companies depend on global development, which in turn relies on stability and increased prosperity, it is in their direct interest to help improve the state of the world. When Gap Social Responsibility Report in 2004, which was unprecedented, historic and in the category of pioneer work, I think Gap demonstrated global corporate citizenship.
However, to run an office is also very expensive and companies tend to economize much on offices, which could lead to undesired outcomes, that are sometimes directly related and obvious but most outcomes are hidden indirectly and people are not aware of it. Do companies feel ethically responsible to treat all their employees with integrity or are they more concerned with preventing government legislation in the area. I will therefore discuss each approach along with their advantages and disadvantages and address the issue of whether organizations have a genuine interest in providing the minority with rectitude. ‘‘For successful businesses, diversity is much more than a buzzword or the ‘right thing to do. In thriving companies throughout the world, diversity is an essential tool that creates a competitive edge in today’s marketplace.’’(2) The business case rests
Ethics Reflection Paper Name Strategic Planning & Implementation/581 Date Instructor’s Name Ethics Reflection Paper Ethics are the principles, values, and beliefs that provide a basic framework that businesses may choose to follow to set standards for what is right and wrong behavior in the workplace (Pearce & Robinson, 2011). Ethics is the means of deciding a course of action. According to Pearce and Robinson (2011), “ethical standards reflect not a universally accepted code, but rather the end product of a process of defining and clarifying the nature and content of human interaction.” Corporate social responsibility (CSR) embraces a company’s ethical policies to encourage employees to reach out to the community, including stakeholders with a positive impact to protect the company’s assets as well as promote a healthy secure work environment. Personal ethical standards help contribute to the decision and behavior of an organization to develop a strategic plan. The purpose of this paper is to explain the role of ethics and social responsibility in developing a strategic plan while considering stakeholder needs and explain how my ethical perspective has evolved throughout the masters program at University of Phoenix.
