The 1920s brought good changes to Americans in the United States. New forms of entertainment were introduced. Attitudes and fashion for women evolved. The Harlem renaissance was formed.
The Industrial Revolution was one of the most significant events that led to advances in technology. It began in England in the early 1700s and traveled to America in the mid 1700s.The industrial revolution which began in England in the late 1700s was caused by many factors. This revolution changed society in many ways. Some of these changes were positive while others were negative. Positive effects of the Industrial Revolution on European society was globalized economy, population growth, and the results of the use of machinery evolved.
This booming period of economic expansion was often referred to as the “Roaring Twenties”. Society found new freedoms changing social attitudes. New technologies bought about the new economy. Economic growth was high due to growth in the automobile industry, new technology, and mass production. “Machinery “proclaimed Henry Ford, is the new Messiah.
President Roosevelt had come up with the New Deal which made the economic struggle get back on its tracks. I think the reason for the New Deal was to help the economy of course, but to also help the U.S. labor force to have the unemployed get employed. So this way the U.S. can continue to stay strong economically. Pres. Roosevelt’s New Deal made sense to people because of what it was summarized by, the three R’s.
The 1920s went by a number of names such as The Jazz Age, Age of Intolerance, The Age of Wonderful nonsense, and The Roaring Twenties which described the 1920s. The United States has just survived a deadly worldwide influenza attack, also taking part in World War I. Americans wanted to enjoy a regular day, President Warren G. Harding promoted a “Return to Normalcy” which mired a conservative, laissez-faire attitude. These policies would also decisively affect the economy as well alternating a wartime economy to being a peacetime economy. This would open the door for booms and busts in every aspect of life in the United States. Automobiles and radios would become a major part in The United States economic and technological boom.
These sides can give us very conflicting ideas of America at the time. Source 1 shows increases in number of sales of consumer goods, such as cars, fridges, telephones, etc. Citizens in America at that time were provided with a much better living condition than before, for example, cars made it possible for more Americans to live in their own houses in the suburbs. The reason for these positive increases is the new methods in sales and marketing: managers learnt about propagandas in World War set up agencies to put up posters to encourage people to buy goods; even when the people didn’t have the money to buy it, they could borrow it easily or take advantages of the “Buy now, pay later” hire purchase schemes, as mentioned in Source 14. Source 16 states that the motor industries employed hundreds of thousands directly and kept hundreds of thousands others employed in other industries.
