The Nacirema is a culture with bizarre and mundane customs. Throughout the passage it seemed as if they thought of the human body as being a type of temple, and once the person has died the temple needed to be disposed of so that the spirit could be free. The magical potions used by the Nacirema didn’t work but if the mixture had something that was poisonous in it. I think they might have thought that it was magic because of the outcome. The charms that the Nacirema used I think were similar to voo-doo. Only because the spiritual background the Nacirema had. So once they were trying to use the charms against someone they seemed to have worked. The rituals, in which the Nacirema participated in, were rituals that they seem to have done unconsciously.…show more content…
The Nacirema give the impression that if you die you die and your body would be disposed of the way they wanted it to be disposed of. If you lived you lived, you just got to participate in doing the body rituals on other that have died in your society. Also, the Nacirema thought that dying and living had it pros. A pro of dying might be that you got to be one with your spirit or with the Gods. A pro of living would be witnessing the body rituals. Another might be seeing that dying isn’t a bad thing at all, but that it’s a great thing, because everyone has come together and they are celebrating the life a loved one had. Also, you will gain the understanding that when you die you are not actually dead—your temple is, and your spirit lives
