William Harris 4/11/13 Current Event APS Police Force School violence has hit a significant spurt. There have been numerous shootings, gang related fights, and so on. Policing in school systems is becoming a necessity more than a want these days and it’s very eminent that one should be implemented ASAP. Atlanta Public Schools is considering creating its own police force to give the district more control over security and preventative measures for student and staff safety. "While we were planning to revisit our safety and security plans as a district over a year ago, certainly what happened in Newtown, Conn., impacted our decision process," said APS spokesman Steve Alford.
Ms. Mary Ford APEU Director of Human Resources sent a memo to Mr. Hector Fuentes, President, APEU Local No. 121 in which the main question/controversy responsible for the memo is whether or not the union should oppose the outsourcing proposal set forth by Governor Gloria Gainor. “To develop their critical thinking skills!!! Hat tip Atlas Shrugs I am croiss-posting this story direct from Atlas Shrugs because Pam Geller says it quite well. In the Rialto, California School District, students are being assigned to write an essay arguing whether the Holocaust actually happened or was invented to “influence public emotion and gain”. http://pamelageller.com/2014/05/california-school-district-defends-writing-assignment-confirming-denying-holocaust.html/ First of all, even Germany admits to the Holocaust and educates its younger generations about what happened-at least since the late 1960s when their younger generation started asking questions of their parents and demanding answers. Of course, that was in West Germany.

In his letter he criticized them for putting forth more money to the athletic programs than to the educational programs .In court he argued that his writing of the letter was protected by the First and Fourteenth Amendments, yet supposedly the letter contained fabricated statements and was going to disturb the schools positive progress and administration. The Board rejected his argument and ruled in the schools favor. Unfortunately, Mr. Pickering was removed from his teaching position but he did not stop fighting for his case.
RUNNING HEAD: Action Inquiry-EDA 535 Action Inquiry Candy Hertel-Ballard Grand Canyon University: EDA 535 July 26, 2011 Statement of Problem: Paying teachers based on student achievement has been long been a controversy. With President Barack Obama’s embracing merit pay for teachers in March of 2009 the topic has again come to the forefront of education reform in the United States (Associated Press, 2009). Dan Leikvold, Lead-Deadwood School District Superintendent, “seeing the writing on the wall for legal statutes and education policy forcing districts to use a merit pay model to compensate teachers” (personal communication, 2011) has formed a committee to address the merit pay issue. Military Recruiting In High Schools In the source articles examined, Army Uses Aggressive Tactics to Recruit Teenagers by Deborah White and Military Recruiters Invading High Schools by Jeannine Johnson, both authors agree that the goal of recruitment personnel is to find a way to appeal to the students on campus and sign them up to join the armed services after graduation but the process recruiters use to achieve this goal is perceived differently by the two authors. Typically, a military recruitment officer is allowed to set up a booth in a quad or lunch area. Posters are often hung in well-traveled hallways and the table filled with information about the armed services is equipped with video games and television monitors showing film loops of the military in action. Also featured are short activities where students can compete to test their endurance and strength. On occasion, a small car or motorcycle is displayed and the engine revved to show raw strength and power.

Keith W. Pittman PHI 105 21st Century Skills: Critical Thinking & Problem Solving February 12, 2012 Professor Matt Hampton Mandatory Military Service This topic of mandatory military service, pose great controversy in our country of tremendous freedom. As you read this paper, it is my intentions and opinion to show you why we should not have mandatory military service. I will bring to light the effect mandatory military service would have on our society, by point out the difference between the draft and mandatory military service; benefits from mandatory military service; and the violation of free will. As we know it, at one point in history we did have a government imposed selective service draft. This was the closest we ever came to mandatory military service.
Now, one of the biggest reasons why people seem think aging sucks is because you're forced to make rash decisions. Quite recently, I had to pick the courses for my senior high school year. This decision will be the stepping stone into my post secondary education and will build the foundation of my future career. It's kind of ironic really, we're forced to sit down and decide what we want to do with out lives at the age where we still must ask for permission to go to the washroom. Although it might seem tough to make these choices, they can be good.
Why One Years’ Service should be Mandatory Steven Wunderlin Grantham University Mr. Timothy Goss English Composition 6/7/2011 Why One Years’ Service should be Mandatory Because serving in the military is important for the defense of the United States, and military service instills ideals like integrity, selfless service and honor, the United States government should require all high school graduates to enlist for at least one year in the United States military. In this essay I intend to prove that one year’s active duty service the U.S. military is what every high school graduate needs to begin their working career. Many might argue that this action is unnecessary since we have what is called the Selective Service Act. This act requires that all eighteen year old males register with the government in case of an emergency that would require more manpower than our current military can provide. I believe that this act should be repealed and replaced with a law that requires all high school graduates whether they are male or female enlist for at least one year in the active duty military.
