One of the main reasons Colorado refuses to pass the law is due to the cost of jail and lifetime surveillance - money of course outweighing the safety of children - enough said. Also, the reduced prison sentences are worth every cent because every year a violent sex offender or pedophile is in prison is a year protecting children from them. An understandable pitfall of Jessica’s Law is that it makes it nearly impossible to find homes for registered sex offenders due to the clause that states they cannot live within 2,000 feet of a school zone, park or where children gather. I concede that this makes it difficult and could be counterproductive since many become homeless and unable to keep under a close watch. This is a valid concern and can be dealt with state by state, the government spend astronomical amounts of tax payer dollars on nugatory programs.
Calling it Quits Divorce plays a big role in modern day America, and unfortunately divorce rates have continued to increase over the past decade. Divorce is often perceived as a negative topic for obvious reasons such as causing damage to the family, traumatizing the children in the family and other psychological effects it has on people involved. However, both of the two articles I researched discuss divorce and its negative psychological effects; one of the articles differs in that it focuses on the ecological aspects of divorce instead. Jacob Duchaine wrote “An Argument Against Divorce” making claims against divorce and its negativity using biblical references and the stance that “No one takes anything seriously anymore, even marriage”(1).
Scott Fitzgerald’s The Great Gatsby. This whole project of Prohibition was all a big fail. Today as a whole I don’t know why we would even attempt it like some places have. It needs to be a learning experience for our government today not to do what it did back then and spend tons of money on laws that are going to fail and cause more debt. In all the Prohibition Era was a down for America even though it might not say so, but it was a true down grade instead of a booming
To go along with the 4,400 Americans that wont be coming home to their families, there were over 32,000 Americans wounded in this war. So was this $4 trillion dollar war really wort our time and the lives it cost us? I say no, I feel we spent far too long helping a country that wanted nothing but for us to leave their country for years. We have cost too many lives, and have changed too many lives with injuries to justify a war where we simply just pull out. The results did not justify the losses America took, including how negative our image has become over the years, the financial hole we dug ourselves into, and the way we've affected Americans for the
Gun control has been a controversial issue in America for many decades, especially the debate concerning the most effective ways to reduce gun violence. We hear stories everyday of homicides, suicides, firearm accidents, and mass shootings resulting in more than 100,000 people being injured or killed per year. In the political arena, there are opposing views on the laws needed to reduce this gun violence epidemic. There is too much political arguing that causes Congressional gridlock, when what is important is to stop fighting each other and start fighting for the common good of the people. Many concerned citizens just want the political arguing to stop and to work together, not for political gain, but for the crucial purpose of saving lives.
He was wrongfully convicted when he was 16 years old and served 20 years in prison before proving his innocence. That mistake took two decades from him, but it took Carlos DeLuna's life. Proof of Carlos' innocence has only come out now, 29 years after the crime and two decades after he was executed, because of the painstaking work of professors and students at The Columbia Human Rights Law Review. Doubts always existed in Carlos' case, but it took 29 years and what some are calling the most comprehensive criminal investigation in U.S. Carlos DeLuna's case is proof that these kinds of cases are not isolated; they are the inevitable result of an imperfect system. As long as we have a death penalty, we risk executing innocent people like Carlos
Most Americans’ support the death penalty to a certain extent, while others want it completely abolished from our nation’s government. People that want it completely abolished will not support the death penalty by any means. The death penalty could put innocence lives to death and the system cost a fortune that could be used for many different other needed resources. My personal belief is that the death penalty should be completely abolished from our nation’s justice system. With recent studies, it shows that the death penalty could cause more issues than not.
Javier Hernandez Informative Essay Gun control has been under fire since incidents like Sandy Hook and Columbine and many Americans feel our laws on gun control are missing the target. In light of this, the Second Amendment, specifically the right to bear Arms is a very controversial topic. With the increase in crimes involving guns, “32000 gun deaths a year” (Beauchamp 2) and the mass production of automatic weapons the discussion over what the right to bear arms actually means is at the for front of many political and everyday discussions. With this in mind my paper will serve to clarify and educate the reader on what is entailed in the Second Amendment and the right to bear arms. The Second Amendment protects the rights of individuals to keep and bear arms with or without being a member of any militia.
Gun violence is a major issue in the United States, over the years the number of injuries and deaths from a firearm has sky rocketed leaving people wondering when it will stop. Though many efforts have been made to prevent the issue of gun violence the numbers are steadily rising at an alarming rate throughout the inner cities and also suburbs throughout the world. Most acts of gun violence are senseless and leave a lot of people affected. From mothers and fathers who will never see their children again due to an untimely death, to mothers and fathers who’s children that were on the other side of the gun that committed the crime and are facing life behind bars. These and many other scenarios are the main issues of gun violence.
Death Penalty Should Not Be Abolished Criminals who are not afraid of being equally punished for their horrible crimes have murdered many people every year. Career criminals make it impossible for the average person to live their life without fear. Since most states have eliminated the death penalty murderers, dangerous criminals cannot be sentenced to the death penalty. The way the justice system works in some states is not fair compared to the other states that do have the death penalty. Therefore, the United States interprets the same human right differently depending on a location.
