As it was mentioned before, lost gear and not having full accountability can have minor or severe consequences. It’s important for each Marine to train with all their gear, so when they are in country, they know how to properly use everything they were issued. If a Marine is missing something during training, then it’s possible that he/she didn’t receive complete training due to their lack of gear retention. If that Marine didn’t properly train then his peers and fellow Marines will have to pick up the slack for him/her which
Its never a good thing to get lax with the people who are supposed to be your daily leaders. Other wise, if in a combat situation, things would probably not work the way there supposed to and it
But failing to adhere to any of those codes, I am not only failing myself, but I am failing those around me because though I may not always realize it, my actions speak volumes of my character and of my work ethic. Should I fail in my duties as a second class petty officer of the United States Navy, then I would expect that others would begin to question the level at which I can be trusted with assigned tasks, including, but not limited to: the amount of responsibility I can adequately handle, and the level of quality at which I complete assigned tasks. I am writing this essay because I failed to
Hooker was married to a plan, Lee wasn’t. In the chaos of combat, commanders must remain open to improvise and adjust as circumstances change. Hooker’s assumption that Lee had only two courses of action was the greater of two fatal mistakes in the campaign. This erroneous assumption in his plan led to Hooker’s decision to stop and hold in place at Chancellorsville, which was the other mistake. In short, neither Hooker’s plan nor his mentality allowed for the play of chance.
This shows a lack of care or consideration from the leaders for their troops as they are willing to allow their soldiers out in these conditions whilst knowing how bad they were. In contrast to source 1’s report on the conditions of the trenches source 2 is a private letter written in reply to Queen Victoria. Lord Raglan was a commander in chief of the British army, as a high ranking officer he needs to be seen as involved and accountable for the actions of others. Whereas in this letter he appears to be highlighting the lack of concern for the troops by staff but also stating he has no power in changing this. He recognises their efforts but speaks of their duties rather than praise or reward.
Soldiers are joining the military more and more to have a secure job with benefits for themselves and their family members. We also need to find a better way to ensure the training the Soldiers are getting is retainable and either provides or enhances expertise in their field. The United States Army is currently not a “Profession of Arms” but with time and General Dempsey’s vision you never
A member of one armed force who is senior in rank to a member of another armed force is the superior of that member with authority to issue orders which that member has a duty to obey under the same circumstances as a commissioned officer of one armed force is the superior commissioned officer of a member of an-other armed force for the purposes of Articles 89, and 90. See paragraph 13c(1). (ii) From one not a superior. Failure to obey the lawful order of one not a superior is an offense under Article 92(2), provided the accused had a duty to obey the order, such as one issued by a sentinel or a member of the armed forces police. See paragraph 15b(2), if the order was issued by a warrant, noncommissioned, or petty officer in the execution of office.
This caused a ripple effect in the army as we promoted inexperienced Soldiers to Sergeant, these leaders were now training new Soldiers, this led to Soldiers not getting the proper leadership and not conducting inspections and other basic soldiering skills like haircuts, cleanliness & serviceability of the uniform and ensuring that good basic discipline was being upheld at all levels. As long as the combat mission was completed many times the leaders weren’t worried about how it got
The Historical Importance of Being On Time In The Military The main reason for this essay is because I did not follow out proper orders and was not at the correct place of duty for accountability of my person on two consecutive occasions. Regardless of my reasons for absence, there is no excuse big enough or serious not to make it on time to formation or at minimum give a courtesy call to my chain of command. I want to be an excellent soldier and I want to excel in the military. 1st sergeant would no doubt call this repeated action laziness, irresponsibility, and un-leadership like qualities that of which have neither the right to stake a claim of existence within nor to continue residing in the army. However, as I may or may not have said before I'd like to stay and continue my rigorous journey up the treacherous road of leadership.
It is widely recognised that the military and the soldiers individually are part of a community that would demand of them to put their personal and professional values aside to serve the moral good. It is not believed to be the responsibility of the military to assess whether or not a war is just – certainly not down to the individual soldier. Wolfendale argues that each soldier has a duty to familiarise his/herself with the principles of just war theory to be able to assess themselves, whether they are partaking in a just war. Arguments Wolfendale supports her claim by first identifying the military as a profession, which in itself demands professional integrity, i.e. a way of determining the best way to conduct the work as a soldier and where the moral limits to that service is – when the soldier should stop fighting the war.
