The impact that the media in the United States has on the minds of the youth has changed into an increasingly dangerous issue. While the media has many positive influences there are still yet many negative behaviors exercised by many teenagers and young adults. Amongst these behaviors is the acceptance of how sex is ok amongst teenagers. The media has become a pool of promiscuity which has led to the spread of many STD’s including HIV and AIDS. Due to the influences of the media teens believe it is ok to have lots of sex without taking proper precautions. There are many teens who do not even know the dangers that sex brings. Unprotected sex can lead to unplanned pregnancies, STD’s and HIV. While all of these effects of unprotected sex are bad, HIV is one that is increasing the most each day. HIV is a disease that is sweeping the nation due to multiple partners and unprotected sex. Due to peoples lack of effort of prevention, “about 1.2 million people are living with HIV or AIDS in the U.S.” (ECLA). This is becoming more common amongst the youth of today. While the HIV pandemic issue is getting better, due to the medications available, it is still a very serious issue going on right now all over the world. Teens and young adults believe it is ok to have unprotected sex with people the trust or been in a relationship with for a long period of time. The truth is HIV is still easy to get in contact with because the other person has had sex with other people and those people have had sex with other people as well. It is no way to track how many sex partners a person has been with and there sex partners and so on. Therefore, HIV is still very catchable. They get the idea that women are loose and free. These countries are saying that American women have no values and are very easy. America’s cultural values, or cultural worth, seem not to be much in their eyes. This is why it is believed that women are targeted in sex trafficking and abduction. American media influences women in a dangerous way and this gives other countries reasons to believe that they will lay down with the first thing they see. In conclusion, the media in America reflects how women are perceived and conditioned to behave causing a rise in promiscuity and thus putting themselves at risk for STD.
