Projectile Lab Experimental Techniques Finding the Velocity: The first step in this lab was to find the velocity of the projectile launcher. The launcher was set to setting to and attached to the double photo gate. Next, the USB cable was hooked up to the photo gate and plugged into the computer so the data could be retrieved from Data Studio. Finally, the projectile was launched, using the projectile launcher, straight up from the ground and through the double photo gate. The projectile was launched three times and an average velocity was found. Part One: This part of the lab was to accurately predict how far the projectile launcher would launch the projectile when it is fired perfectly horizontally off a table. The distance from the ground to how high the ball would be fired from was measured. Then, the equations were used to solve for the time that it would take from the time the ball was being fired to when it hit the ground. Next, using the equations the total distance the ball would travel was found. After that, the students called over Mr. Neenan so that he could observe the firing of the projectile launcher. The projectile launcher was at the end of the table and the calculated distance was marked off on the floor by a target. The projectile launcher was then set up perfectly horizontal and fired. Part Two: This part of the lab was to hit Mr. Bill with the projectile as he was sitting on the floor. First, the distance between the projectile launcher and Mr. Bill (3.5m) was given by Mr. Neenan. Next, the given velocity from part one (6.27 m/s) was used to solve for the angle needed to hit Mr. Bill. Once the angle was found, the projectile launcher was placed on the ground 3.5m away from Mr. Bill and the projectile was fired. Part Three: This part of the lab was to hit Mr. Bill with the projectile while he was elevated off the ground. First, the
