1st draft of the essay There’ve been always an argument between the benefits of commuting with public transit and cars. The famous saying, “Haste makes waste” makes this topic very clear. As America is a commuter culture, people need to find the most beneficial way to commute. According to the article “The Bus, a Modern Panacea” by Lester Detroit, student should take the bus more seriously because it could solve many individual, local and global problems. The author states that commuting with public transit has more benefits than driving a car each day to school.
Public transportation in Minnesota is also very expensive and there is a process that one needs to go through to access it. For example, you have to call to schedule a taxi or you have to follow a schedule for the buses which at times can be very stressful and sometimes a lengthily process. In Liberia, public transportation is very cheap and easy to access and it is the most common way of transportation because cars are very expensive and not affordable. In Liberia one does not need to call to arrange a taxi pick up, or follow a specific bus schedule. You just walk up in the street and stop a taxi for a ride which is very convenient.
We only care about the quickest way to get where we want to go. Taking the bus may take longer, yes, but the environmental impact of twenty people on one bus is greatly smaller than those same twenty people in individual cars. The problem is that there are not enough public transportation options. We as Americans want to be able to go where we want when we want; we are too impatient to wait a few minutes for the next bus. This lifestyle change I think would be harder on more people than say bagging your groceries in a reusable bag as opposed to a plastic one.
Save time? As Vadim pointed out in his email, while you think you’re saving time by driving faster, it’s not a lot of time. And that small amount of time you’re saving isn’t worth it, considering the other factors on this list. Better yet, start out a few minutes early and you’ll arrive at the same time as someone who drove faster but started later, and you’ll arrive much happier than that person to boot. 4.
Commercial goods can be transported across the country much easier than before. Anything from food to toys are easily delivered from one side of the country to the other. For most commuters, highways are taken for granted. Without highways, things like getting to and from work or visiting family may take much longer. People who work in cities would have to liv closer to their work, and therefore suburbs would be much less popular and
For instance, transportation network company Uber has been launched as a mobile application that connects passengers to taxi drivers who are willing and able to pick up them and drive them. This involves removing barriers to entry on two levels. Firstly, the cost of setting up the business is relatively low given its nature as a mobile application. As opposed to, say, taxi hire companies, costs have been greatly reduced in terms of rent and because perhaps less workers are needed. In addition, Uber has also sidestepped barriers to entry because anyone can now become supplier of Uber’s taxi services without having to purchase a license, which helps taxi drivers enter (and leave) the market more
These studies show how conversing uses different cognitive skills than other activities and takes up a human brain’s “bandwidth” (Novotney). She also makes another valid point that “Most people would not think of getting in a car with someone who has been drinking, but they do not have a problem getting in to a car with someone who is using their cell phone” (Novotney). The rising number of cell phone related auto accidents shows that this is a dangerous problem, yet many teens feel they can use their phones without it affecting their driving. Cell phone
SWCC offers tuition at a way cheaper scale than many universities. A big reason I chose SWCC for its small campus so that it easy to know my way around. My other reason for choosing SWCC is for their smaller classes they offer. Another reason for choosing SWCC is for its great parking, because finding a parking spot can be difficult at universities. A great reason why I chose SWCC is for the programs they offer, and the flexible schedule so you can have time to work if need to.
II. Main Point #2: Credit is important because it can often dictate what we can and can’t have. A. Subpoint: Good credit can help us with purchasing a new vehicle with a loan at a low interest rate. We can qualify for credit cards at low rates and no fees. Purchase things that otherwise we couldn’t pay with cash because of the higher cost.
Sitting in traffic is one of the worst time consumers of the day. We all dislike wasting our time sitting in traffic when we are late for a meeting or late for a sporting event. My parents have worked with the Department of Transportation in Pinellas County for years and this has been the steaming question for their whole time there “How can we make travel on our roads better and smoother?” Many of their associates have thought that maybe if they just expand the more traveled roads that the ride would become less congested. This may have worked in the short term, but what they did not expect was the 42% increase in population over the last 30 years (US Census). Over the last decade or so, the department of transportation in the Tampa Bay area has proposed and idea for a monorail type system for the main areas of business in St. Petersburg, Clearwater, and Tampa.
