It is an essential value for officers to maintain even if they are trying to fit into the subculture of law enforcement. Much corruption in police departments has been the result of officers compromising integrity. Another of my important values is honesty. Honesty is a very important part of our personal and professional lives. Being dishonest can break down relationships and harm the community as a whole.
Since the inception of the neighborhood watch program in Gardnerville, Nevada, we have seen a dramatic decrease in complaints about suspicious behavior, deviant behavior, and crimes. There has been a noticeable increase in the attendance at community meetings and more proactive participation from everyone involved with the program. As a community we have come together to ensure that our neighborhood is once again safe for the local residents. No longer are we afraid to walk our dogs or let our children play outside. The neighborhood watch program has brought us closer as a unit and is helping us achieve the ultimate goal of one day being crime free.
“Police Officers and the General Population” Police officers play an integral part in keeping our communities safe, and without them, everyone would sleep less soundly at night. But there are other individuals in our community who have a part in keeping it safe as well. Neighborhood watch members and homeowners who are aware of their neighbors and their neighborhood also play an important part in maintaining the security of our streets. Both are different than one another but together they work hard to protect our communities. Police officers differ from civilians and neighborhood watch members in many ways, though notably in the areas of equipment carried and training.

There has been significant evidence that the use of information systems, such as COMPSTAT, have allowed police departments respond to crime faster, and more efficiently. The police department in Santa Cruz, California tested out this method and found it to be quite effective in preventing and deterring the instances of crime. Mr. Friend, a crime analyst at this police department stated “We’re facing a situation where we have 30 percent more calls for service but 20 percent less staff than in the year 2000, and that is going to continue to be our reality,” Mr. Friend said.

Integrity in Criminal Justice Abstract The role of integrity plays a major part in the criminal justice field. The integrity of a police officer more specifically has to be almost immaculate in order for him or her to perform their jobs to the best of their ability. Contract security firms by contrast sell their services to the public, including businesses, homeowners, and banks. Private security is not a monolithic entity. Just as differences exist between state and local law enforcement, private security performs functions that can differ considerably. IACP’s summit report notes that “[a] security practitioner could be an experienced director of security at a major multinational corporation, a manager of contract security officers at a client site, a skilled computer crime investigator, an armed protector at a nuclear power plant, or an entrylevel guard at a retail store.”5 For local police chiefs and sheriffs, some or all of these classes of private security might be appropriate to incorporate into their homeland security strategies, depending on the characteristics of their jurisdictions. Law enforcement and private security have strengths and weaknesses that must be considered to form realistic expectations of what each can bring to partnerships.
Private security agencies must constantly be promoting themselves by proving the local police, and even direct competitors cannot provide the same level of protection or services. The public police force feels they have jurisdiction and the private company is just getting in the way. Often the public security feels the private security firms lack the experience and standard procedures in place to handle emergency situations. Public officers would prefer to see the private security officer to sit in a guard shack and to call the police if they observe something out of the ordinary. Many companies and individuals pay a lot of money for security, and in many cases they this only provides a false sense of security.
