Stephanie Vera World Civ 102B Prof. Morgan 15 October 2012 Assignment #2 Primitive Versus Civilized A primitive culture or society is one that lacks economic developments and modernity while; a civilization is more advanced and has reached a level of modernity, material development and the makings of different religions. They both contain many traits that are different and similar to one another. Many of their best traits can possibly even be combined to form a greater society. Primitive societies, unlike civilizations, consist of a less advanced culture. All the people in a primitive society contribute to the same jobs and help out their society with whatever they can; as seen in the movie “Mutiny on the Bounty”. There aren’t any written forms in the society and everything portrays a form of sharing. Since a primitive society is not economically advanced, the people do not need to pay for anything thus the sharing. They are friendly to their environment and use it to its best potential but at the same time taking care of it so it does not die out since it contains resources that benefit the community. It is also different from a civilization because they have oral traditions instead of written documents stating the rules in the community. This creates a harmonious relationship between all individuals and the environment because no one is into it for their own interests or benefit; there is a clan unity. Adding to the clan unity, you can say there is a level of trust because of the way they do not lock their doors and are not ashamed of being naked. Lastly, there is a level of equality and respect for women. In a civilization, there are many more differences as opposed to a primitive culture. A civilization consists of classes where people are categorized. Then, civilizations contain courts, organized governments and organized religion, which can
