She enjoys playing with her dolls and watching Dora's adventures on television. Cleo has learned to recite her numbers from one through ten by repetition though she won't really understand the concept of counting objects yet, and may skip around in her counting — "One, two, five, six...". Cleo has started to express her likes and dislikes for food and clothing, to understand simple questions and commands, and to identify her body parts. Being the only child, she is the apple of everybody’s eye. One sunny Sunday afternoon, her aunt brought her to a park to play.
Helen replied saying, “No” and adding on that she sings instead with a touch of prideness in her voice. Immediately Kath got and jealous and said there are no singing clubs in this school followed by saying, “guess you’re out of luck”. In this topic, Kath’s arrogance once again is illustrated as she embarrasses Helen. Kath’s arrogance goes hand in hand with her selfishness throughout the story. Secondly, Kath has a selfish characteristic where she tends to change things so that things seem more suitable for her.
She is a fourth grade student at John S. Armstrong Elementary School in Highland Park and was eager to show us her homework assignments and various worksheets she had recently completed at school. Lisa is a straight-A student and appears to be very proud of her scholastic accomplishments. She happily reported that she is a member of an incentive book club, loves to read, and routinely makes a perfect score on her spelling tests. Piaget’s concrete operational stage is evidenced through Lisa’s ability to master certain school subjects and her domain of knowledge specializes in social studies. Lisa was articulate
Let me tell you a little bit about Patty. She was a bright, outgoing, young woman who had intentions of going to Chapman University in the fall. Unfortunately, Patty struggled with an eating disorder since she was in middle school. She, like many, went to food to take away her stress. Earlier this year, Patty Desolatia tried to help her fellow classmates when she reported Kyle for having prescription drugs.
Only a select few have what it takes to be an everyday lunch lady. She makes sure the children that eat the frozen foods thank God every night for each well made, home cooked meal they have. She makes them pray that they don’t have to eat her lunch for every meal. She stimulates the economy by making sure children go and buy food and lunches from stores instead of in school; a job only a lunch lady can do. The lunch lady possesses many virtues in this world.
Center Comparison I really enjoyed this center comparison assignment. I did a few hours of observations of the children interacting in the classrooms and talked to the teachers as well for additional information. This assignment enabled me to compare two different classrooms and gathered information about nurturing responsive relationships with children, families, and colleagues. My target outcome was to analyze the early childhood classroom/environment based on your knowledge of social and emotional development. I feel like I met those expectations.
Since the first “National School Lunch Act” was passed in 1946, the federal government has provided funding to ensure children had access to healthy, low-cost meals. Despite the objections from the School Nutrition Association (SNA) and some members of Congress, the USDA reports that “schools have come a long way toward providing healthy meals as now more than 90 percent of schools are meeting the standards” (“School Cafeteria Favorites”). Students are also beginning to realize the standards are beneficial. According to fifth grader, Cree Crook, “She knows to get tomatoes and lettuce in her taco salad and she’s learned to like green beans. .
Field Experience/Observation I chose to observe at two local preschools. The reason for this was because I wanted to be able to compare and contrast their programs. It was a wonderful experience to see the differences in the different program. I picked a preschool that focuses on learning through play and the other school has a more academic focus. I was able to spend several hours at each school and entering each school took me back to being a child and brought back so many memories of the preschool I attended as a child.
I have chosen to observe the Pre-school at Joshua Springs Christian School. My daughter attended Pre-school there a year ago and loved it. However, I have always wondered what their curriculum was and how the Teachers went about teaching 3 and 4 year olds curriculum to begin with! The school is located at 57373 Joshua Lane in Yucca Valley, CA. The actual name of the Pre-school is Joshua Springs Christian Pre-school and it is a private school.
The classroom was lead by a young woman in her twenties. The girls will be known as Girl A, Girl B, and Girl C. The boys will be known as Boy A, Boy B, Boy C, and Boy D. Observation The class leader asked the children to sit down at the table for a snack. The girls all complied, sat down at the table, and waited while the leader handed out the snack. The girls chatted with each other about their favorite color and flavor of Tootsie Roll Pop. Girl B noticed that I was sitting at the smaller table.
