Lose Yourself The article that I chose to write my paper on is entitled “Power Process: Be here now”. This article grabbed my attention because I often find myself daydreaming and being easily distracted in meetings, conversations, classrooms and while reading. The article explains the importance of being in the moment and how to find your way back to the moment when you get lost for any period of time. I believe that being in the moment is crucial in order to accomplish tasks, hold meaningful conversations, and to be a good listener. The young man was incarcerated at the time and was ready to be released on terms of probation for domestic violence. The young man was under the influence of drugs or alcohol when he committed the offense and did not remember what had happened, however, after a year in a county jail was very remorseful for what had happened. He has two young children and said that he wishes nothing more than to get back to raising them. The judge gave a speech to the man and to the people in the room before he delivered his holding. “If you are at home with your children, but you are under the influence of drugs or alcohol, you are not truly at home. Your body may be there, but your mind is not. Be at home with your children both physically and mentally” (Judge James Sheridan, Lenawee County Court). The speech made by the judge perfectly relates to the message being made by the article. Be in the now. Be in the moment. If your mind is altered by drugs, alcohol, by other thoughts, or in any way for that matter, you are not truly there. In the young man’s case, by having consumed mind altering drugs or liquids, he removed himself mentally from the moment, he lost time. The lessons and techniques that this article have provided me will be very beneficial. I have recommended this article to my boss, some of my peers, my wife and even my children. If we cannot grasp every moment, we are losing time. It is up to us to decide what “the moment” is, but no matter what it means to each person, I recommend that they not lose it. By taking constant inventory of our mind and body and continuously working on the areas that we are falling short in, and perfecting areas that we are striving in, will aid in our professional and personal
