Every kid has a role model, usually someone famous such as a musician, or a rapper. Sometimes that role model may not be the best for the child due to how explicit the content of that artist may be. There has been a lot of controversy about whether or not music videos can affect a childrens lifestyle. Thirteen years olds should not watch music videos because it negatively affects them mentally, socially and academically. Children under 13 should not be allowed to watch music videos because it can affect their life in different ways, giving them a wrong perspective depending on the video and its lyrics, it also has effects on schoolwork, social interactions, mood and particularly behavior. Several studies indicate a direct correlation between music and violent behavior of teens. The finding from these studies also show a connection between the imagery displayed in the videos and inappropriate secual attitudes and conduct. Lyrics from the music tend to have a significant corrupting influence on the children. Genres such as hip-hop and heavy metal are found to be the most damaging to children than the rest. The racial attitudes and interpersonal relations of teenagers are heavily influenced by the music videos they watch. The later part of the 20th century had seen a disturbing development. The greatest threat to the health of American adolescents in recent decades is violence induced injuries and death. During the 1990’s, nearly 70% of all teenage deaths are a result of violence – accidents, manslaughter, homicides, etc. In 1994 in particular 357,000 teenagers were assaulted badly enough so as to require emergency medical treatment. A further 3569 of them eventually succumbed to their injuries. Adding to the alarm, the number of juvenile arrests for violent crimes during the year was recorded at 150,000 that included 6000 rapes and 85,300 aggravated assaults. The
