In my family everyone is strictly religious and I have been attending Russian Orthodox Church since early childhood. I never had a deep understanding of why it is necessary to have certain religious beliefs and was always tired and annoyed by having to stand during the sermons. I rarely questioned any of the imposed moral standards and attended church regularly with my mother. It was something that I had to do because of our culture’s religion. Here in United States it took a different meaning since I realized that it provides a cultural bonding to people within the same culture.
While Valarie was in grade school she was always teased about her religious beliefs while her friends and peers were always trying to convert her to Christianity. She always stayed strong and didn't let any of those things effect her. Believe it or not there are over a half million Sikh Americans in the United States and twice as many Sikh as Jews in America. Both of these numbers were surprising to me. Sikhs believe that God is One!
I have been brought up in a very mixed society but in a Church of England school where religious education was compulsory, however we still studied various other religions and were taught to respect all people, and their beliefs. Prayers were a daily thing at the end of each assembly and whether or not I wanted to pay attention to the prayer time again I had to respect the people that did. Religion may affect people in many different ways, mainly because we all come from different backgrounds and are taught differently. However, it is important to respect how people honour their religion. I am an atheist however I still make time to talk to my clients about their religion and sometimes have prayer time with them, even though my own beliefs it is not something that I choose to do as I know it makes the client happy it makes me happy to do this as I know it is something that they feel so strongly in.
My feelings for not speaking Spanish are that we speak more English because we are in America and that is the language spoken primarily. They have taken Spanish class and did ok but don’t use it much. My parents and I talk in Spanglish on a daily bases, especially if we don’t want to let my boys here what we are talking about. I don’t feel like not teaching them was a bad thing. I also feel like I don’t like it when I am approached by other ethnicities and spoken Spanish to.
Every time I want a moment of peace or relaxation, I always listen to religious music because it is like forgetting everything for a moment. According to Janaro and Altshuler( the art of being human July 4, 2011) “ rhythm in music as in poetry, it is an alteration between stress and unstress. That is why, when I was about 12 years old, I tried to get into the chorus of the church that I used to go, but I was a really bad singer and I could not make it. However, when I came to the United States, I tried again and at this time I made it. I even participated in evens to raised money for the church.
Jena Thompson Feb. 11th 2012 Medieval Humanities Response Paper #1 While growing up I went to church occasionally but as I grew older I definitely didn’t attend it regularly. Therefore I wasn’t too educated in biblical history or even grew up yearning to learn about religion in my life because I didn’t know much about it. In chapter eight, one of the most interesting things I read about was that Christianity came about from a reformation of Judaism through Christ. A second interesting thing I learned about in this chapter was that Jesus was crucified by the Roman Empire because he was a “threat to imperial stability,” and last but not least I also learned that Christianity was not allowed to be practiced in the Roman Empire until 313 c.e. when the Edict of Milan was passed.
Honestly and Integrity Everyday people grow and learn, and as we thrive we find out things about ourselves and life. What our morals we may believe in and other things we value to our lives. In my time, I have so far learned that honesty and integrity are two of the things I honor most. In this essay I will show how my personal academic integrity related to my regular life, in examples such as being a ref and playing soccer. For the past three years I have been part of the U.S.R.A which stands for Utah Soccer Referee Association.
Foreigners who enter America’s borders do not know much or any English at all. Most of these foreigners that enter America do not worry about learning English. Some even begin to live the American lifestyle and may even start a new life in the United States. This creates a problem, not only are people speaking English, but they are speaking Spanish, French, Latin and other languages. The United States of America “has probably been host to more bilingual people than any other country in the world,” all because America does not have a declared national language (Hakuta 166).
However, this does mean that adults have very little control over their dominant language(s) (in other words, over the language or languages they are viewed as being native speakers of or that they feel most comfortable using). Since we acquire the language or languages that will likely come to be the language of our thoughts and our identities from the world around us as children, we have very little control over which language or languages these might be. In a world where all languages were treated equally, this would not be a big deal. However, languages are not treated equally in society. Being
Organizing weddings takes up to months and years, Pakistani weddings usually can’t take place without the consent of both parents and sometimes even the eldest in the family out of respect. In today’s day Pakistanis usually don’t have arranged marriages but they still have a lot to do with the family’s consent, the groom’s side has to go talk to the bride’s parents before they take any step towards their wedding. American weddings are never arranged and both man and women speak to each other before their families. Their families also get to know each other while the wedding is being planned. Traditionally American weddings take place in a church, family and friends are formally invited and they have bridesmaids, flower girls, and a ring bearer.
