That hero is Atticus, who fights for racial justice. Atticus seems like a sort of “Superman” in the county of Maycomb, as he does many things that other people don’t want to do or can’t do. For instance he is the one who has to take care of a mad dog who is loose on the streets, and he guns it down in one shot. People call Atticus names because he is not racist, and his daughter Scout retaliates against them. “Atticus had promised me he would wear me out if he ever heard of me fighting any more.” (99) Scout thinks.
"I coulda been a contender." Do you think Terry only has himself to blame? In his 1954 film “On the Waterfront”, Elia Kazan portrays the transformation of Terry the protagonist, from being an indifferent person who is lack of motivation, to a brave, determined man who fights for what he thinks is right. His famous line “I coulda been a contender.” shows Terry’s pain to lose his boxing career and that he is reconciled to his current life as working on the dock. He blames Charlie as the one who caused him to lose his boxing career and he also blames himself for his lack of bravery to act according to his own will.
Drewe uses reoccurring symbols to reinforce the themes of impending danger and creates a sinister atmosphere. It can be seen throughout the memoir of Drewes life; he has always had a fascination with sharks, and writes how as a child he even captured a carpet shark as a sign of strength in an attempt to impress his love interest, Roberta. The title of the novel ‘The Shark Net’ suggests the literal idea of a shark net that in theory are used to keep sharks at bay but in reality is a poor response to the dangers of sharks themselves as they don't help much and can only provide a false sense of security. The shark can also be seen as a metaphor of Cooke, an unseen killer, who is ever present searching and waiting for its next prey, instilling fear by his reputation and his perceptible vagueness, being like a shark. He is a friendly/familiar face to everyone, but then when he murders his victims he becomes unfamiliar to most.
George stated at the beginning that Lennie always gets into troubles. “You do bad things and I go to get you out,” (Steinbeck, 11). When Lennie held Curley's wife tighter and tighter we all knew whats going to happen because first he killed a mouse and he thought he will not do the same thing with a puppy. John Steinbeck used his creativity use of foreshadowing to make the book more enjoyable to read. Lennie seems to be very strong, but in reality he is the weakest character in the novel “Of Mice And Men”, because of the lack of his mentality ability and the missing characteristic to think for himself and make his own decisions.
When Curley saw Lennie gazing off with a smile on his face he got mad and punched Lennie in the face. After Lennie started bleeding pretty bad and wasnt defending himself, George started yelling at Lennie to fight back. Once Lennie decided to fight back he grabbed Curleys wrist and wouldn’t let go. By the time he finally did let go Curley’s hand had a bunch of broken bones in it. Carlson and Slim packed Curley up in the wagon and went to get him help but Slim warned Curley not to tell his father.
Huck escapes suppression by fleeing to the river, where he finds his ticket to freedom; “a canoe... riding high like a duck” (30). The river symbolizes, freedom from Pap and essentially freedom from the corruption of society. Civilized people, such as Judge Thatcher and Miss Watson, don't believe Pap raises Huck correctly, but they would never accord to Jim raising Huck because he is black, even though he is a parent, himself; this represents the land's closed-minded way of thinking. Society puts Pap over Jim, even though Pap is a horrible human being because Pap is white and Jim is black, illustrating society's corrupt
Beowulf is no longer fighting for his safety, he is fighting for golf for his people. This shows he is maturing because he no longer cares about the good of himself, he now cares mainly about the good of his people. The battle he is next faced with is a dragon, which is a huge step for him considering he is only used to fighting smaller creatures. Beowulf is now maturing and just before entering the cave he tells his men “my heart is firm, my hands calm: I need no hot words. Wait for me close by, my friends“ (2530).
Jack and his boys are in charge of the fire and the one time a ship goes by they didn’t take care of the fire and the ship doesn’t see them, when they could have been rescued. That is one of the first time you see Ralph get really mad. He is especially mad because the boys were out hunting instead trying to get rescued. This is one of the times were the two boys values and thoughts on what is important causes tension and fighting between
The only two who kept by each other’s side throughout the whole novel was Ralph and Piggy. “We musn't let anything happen to Piggy, must we?” (Golding page 106). The other boys didn’t care to stay with who was going to help them get rescued, they only wanted to enjoy themselves and hunt. Piggy and Ralph slowly start to realize what Jack is actually about, they get really frustrated and their plan to get rescued was going downhill. “You're a beast and a swine and a bloody, bloody thief!” (Golding page 163).
It is a just demand . If until now, I have seemed your enemy, it was because I feared you would be braver than I, for when I fought my lion my knees trembled and my heart was white, until that charge was made.” (369). This comment was vigorously instructed, so he knew he felt highly of him. Medoto routinely played on his fears of losing respect from others. He knew if Temas didn’t learn this, he would forever doubt himself.
