(Huston, 2010) Many hospitals developed a nursing program that is designed to assist transition new graduated nurses into the role of acute care bedside nurses. They will also learn how to take a medical history, examine patients, and make a diagnosis. During the next two years, they will work in hospitals and clinics under the supervision of physicians (“Pediatricians”).It takes a lot of effort to become a pediatrician, but it is well worth it for those who enjoying doing the work and those who benefit from the work. If a person wants to become a pediatrician the need to be prepared for the busy lifestyle and long hours of work the job provides. Most pediatricians work between 9 to 12 hours a day and 45 to 60 hours a week. Plus they may even have to work weekends and nights when on call, which can make it difficult to balance their career with family life or personal time (“Pediatrician”).

Therapy Services in Nursing Facilities Tammy Wicher Pennsylvania State University July 14, 2013 Abstract Physical therapy (PT) is focused on developing, restoring, and maintaining maximum movement and function. Physical therapy often involves strength training, exercises to improve the range of motion, and training on the use of assistive devices, such as walkers. PTs are also trained in complex wound care (The Alliance for Quality Nursing Home Care, 2010). Occupational therapy (OT) centers on restoring fine motor skills and basic activities of daily living (ADLs). ADLs are any activity performed on a daily basis for self-care, such as bathing and dressing, and are frequently referred to as a measure of the functional status of an individual (The Alliance for Quality Nursing Home Care, 2010).
A student will normally be given a work placement which could be in a residential or nursing home, a hospital or another caring establishment. I have personal experience with learning about these two jobs- I shadowed numerous orthopedic sports medicine surgeons and physician’s assistants during my senior year of high school as part as an academic internship. I observed many different surgeries and watched how these doctors interacted with all kinds of patients. This internship got me interested in these two careers, which is why I picked them for my research. An orthopedic surgeon operates on patients with musculoskeletal problems- either degenerative, traumatic, congenital, or just plain-old injuries. According to the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons ,half of what an orthopedic surgeon’s practice is geared towards are non-surgical, and the other half surgical management.
I have tried to incorporate the model in the essay to facilitate critical thinking and relating theory to practice in the essay. This essay also aims to include a discussion about the knowledge underpinning practice and the evidence base for the requirements of an important clinical skill for the students of nursing. I will also provide a conclusion to the essay which will discuss my reflection skills, acknowledge my insight and competencies gained during the clinical practicum and show my personal and professional development. The clinical skill I have chosen to reflect on within this essay is the management of peripheral intravascular devices (PIDs). My clinical placement was in the day surgery ward of the hospital so I had numerous opportunities of
This is a reflective essay based on my attendance at a multidisciplinary team (MDT) meeting whilst on my two-week placement at a local mental health day hospital. The aim of this essay is to discuss the importance of the multidisciplinary team within the mental health environment and discuss factors that can influence the success or failure of multidisciplinary teams. Mental health teams generally comprise of psychiatrists, clinical psychologists, nurses, occupational therapists and social workers, but other therapists such as family therapists, psychotherapists and counsellors might also become involved in the care of the patient (Perkins & Repper 1998). Multidiscipline involvement is important within mental health nursing as people with mental health problems have multiple needs, so a variety of expertise is required to meet the needs of these people (Darby et al 1999). Multidisciplinary mental health teams can been defined as: “A group of practitioners with different professional training, employed by more than one agency, who meet regularly to coordinate their work providing services to one or more clients in a defined area” (Ovretveit,1993: 9 cited in Onyett 2003) The advantage of a multidisciplinary team approach is that all professionals work together by collecting the facts and by bringing information together, to obtain as complete a view as possible of the problems of each individual patient.
