In 1990, the administrative authorities ruled that Nordstrom had violated state wage and hour laws due to its incapacity to remunerate all the services provided. A domino effect was triggered: The legal problems of some areas were exposed and a wave of complaints started to come forth from all over the country.

Racial profiling is a form of discrimination by which law enforcement uses a person’s race or cultural background as the primary reason to suspect that the individual has broken the law. Racial profiling is a serious human rights problem affecting millions of people in the United States in even the most routine aspects of their daily lives. The debate over racial profiling has become a central element in a much larger history of adversarial relationships between the police and communities of color. Already-existing tensions between police and communities of color became heightened over the past two decades as allegations of racial profiling by law enforcement agents against people of color increased in number and frequency. A "profile" is a coherent set of facts - known conditions and observable behavior that indicate a particular individual may be engaged in criminal activity.
In 1999, Lego introduced a restructuring program that included cutting costs by $1B DKK, firing a significant number of executives, and laying off approximately 1,000 employees. While this move reflected management’s willingness to make large systemic changes, there were pieces that revealed Lego was not completely rehabilitated. In 2006 The Fair Labor Assn. found that on average there were 18 working labor law violations per Nike factory. These violations included excessive hours, underpayment of wages, health and safety problems and worker harassment (Xiang). Nike should be held responsible for working conditions in foreign factories that it does not own, but where subcontractors make Nike products. It seems obvious that Nike should be held responsible for working and employees’ wages.

The United States legislative system has taken notice of the sometime odd cases that people have chosen to not settle by mediation but sue for millions of dollars. Based on the Liebeck and Pearson lawsuits it is clear that these cases exists and some have merit and others are a waste of the courts time. What are the facts?
A ton of individuals from the outside came in and took temporary positions to fill their roles in the factory, making a hostile environment in the area. Cars were vandalized, and people were threatened. Luckily this all ended, and there came to be an agreement granting them their rights. It was interesting to read into both sides of a similar story such as this one, and maybe I’m somewhat biased, but I still can’t help but side with the union in this particular case. The company had accomplished multiple unfair practices, from interrogating employees to not recognizing their bargaining rights.
