One was that there was no long-term loyalty to the company. Once the employees gained industry experience, they left to work with larger companies. The second factor was the wide spread drug usage amongst the current employees. Mr. Bowie is considering a drug-testing program to increase employee productivity and has hired consultants to assist with the implementation. 3.
Apart from the political turmoil, Candore was in the midst of a rare viral epidemic. Health authorities estimated that one percent of the population would be infected. ViroBlax is one of the drugs used in the treatment of this viral epidemic. Gentura was under severe pressure from the new government to produce ViroBlax at a subsidized price. This would cause a breach of the contract because subsidized production of ViroBlax violated the payment terms of the contract between Gentura and CadMex..
With Cad Mex Pharma’s; as with any global business there are always ethical dilemmas. As far as the viral spread; the average thoughts of a person is to help stop an epidemic. However; as a business person the bottom line and the legal side has to be looked at. After all if the company responsible for the vaccine or cure is not in business there will be no one saved. This is where knowing the laws and choosing the best business decisions comes into play.
Timothy J Salas 9/29/14 Escape from the Western Diet Summary In the article “Escape from the Western Diet” by Michael Pollan says there many different nutritional theories that causes a large number of diseases to those who eat a “Western Diet”. Pollan disagrees with these theories and says that both the food and health industries are to blame for this. Pollan claims the food industry is to blame because they use these different nutritional theories to release new products, and that the health industry is to blame because they use these theories to develop new drugs and treatment methods to profit off them. Denis Burkitt an english doctor stationed in africa during WW2 suggests that the only way to avoid this is to “go backwards to the diet and lifestyle of our ancestors” which Pollan says “to eat foods that are less processed”. Pollan points out that this is easier said then done by describing its not as straightforward as it sounds and that even factors like soil condition and livestock can make this concept a daunting task.
In 2005 the Indigenous People’s Council on Biocolonialism (IPCB) is a human rights group that seeks to protect Indigenous people from what it sees as the negative effects of biotechnology. The IPCB condemned the genographic as exploitative, and encouraged indigenous people to boycott project partner IBM as well as National Geographic itself. Maurice Foxx, Chairman of the Massachusetts Board of Indian Affairs said in 2006 “What scientists are trying to prove is that we’re the same as the pilgirms, except that we came over several thousand years before, why should give them that openly” (DNA Gathers Hit a Snag: Tribes Don’t Trust Them) “New York Times” There were also fears that the project may be similar to the Human Genome Project. Sponsored by the United States government, the Human Genome Project has also come under heavy criticism from indigenous groups. One of the criticisms is that the revelation of the genetic predisposition of certain groups to certain ailments could lead to discrimination from health insurance companies.
However, not all of the new technology will successfully emerge into the health care system because it is very costly to implement. Consumerism and patient empowerment is also a change that has taken place and this involves the public having a higher expectation of the quality of service being provided. Recent studies reveals that patients are now demanding more information, and wants to be involve in the decision making when concerning treatment options. The demands for more information are supported by trends in ethics and law regarding patient autonomy and informed consent. Patients within the last
One surprise ending came when Dr. Pangloss was taken away for unknown reasons or was selected along with Candice at random. I’m presuming it was for speaking his optimistic opinions against local ideals. The other surprise ending came when another earthquake occurred approximately a week after human sacrifices had concluded. The point of realization came when Candice deliberated the outcome of why Pangloss was hanged however, he may have resigned to accepting it as the people of Lisbon being evil and ignorant. Candice had previously discovered “a world filled with stupidity, plagued by evil, mired in ignorance...” (Sayre, p. 817).
P4P programs are the directions the health care industry is going and improvement to make the P4P programs work for the best outcome is critical. The P4P programs are designed to make improvements to the health care industry and measure the quality of caregiven. A system that does not work the way it is supposed to is useless. Mechanisms and entities needs to be in place to make sure the system is working correctly and is an asset to the health care industry. The United States is making huge changes in the health care industry.
Minor Essay One January 31, 2012 The Quick Critique of a Long Disaster In “The Oil Spills We Don’t Hear About”, Anene Ejikeme creates an essay that highlight the spill in such a way to readers that raises the extent of damage of the spill. He develops his essay using rhetorical strategies to persuade the audience that the BP Oil Spill is “believed to be the worst environmental disaster in U.S. History”. Ejikeme’s framing strategies persuade readers that the oil spill is one of the greatest impacts not only to Nigeria, but to the United States. In this essay, Ejikeme uses a brief sentence to open up the argument with diction such as “disastrous” and “disaster”. Using this twice, he defines his point in saying that the BP oil spill
Dr. Paul Offit, MD, FAAP, who is a noted expert on vaccines said: “Parents are bombarded with false stories about the dangers of vaccines, and the result is that some are backing away from vaccinating their children. This is tragic, because it leaves children vulnerable to deadly diseases, and it lowers the immunity of the entire community”. (Offit, M.D.) What this means is that if we, as a society, continue to break down population immunity by not vaccinating our children, it will open the door to all of those diseases that we thought were made extinct by vaccines. Population immunity is also referred to as “herd immunity”.
