What would you do? You are the manager of a local toy store. The hottest Christmas toy of the year is the new "Peter Panda" stuffed animal. The toy is in great demand and almost impossible to find. You have received your one and only shipment of 12, and they are all promised to people who previously stopped in to place a deposit and reserve one. A woman comes by the store and pleads with you, saying that her six-year-old daughter is in the hospital very ill, and that "Peter Panda" is the one toy she has her heart set on. Would you sell her one, knowing that you will have to break your promise and refund the deposit to one of the other customers? (There is no way you will be able to get an extra toy in time.) The store’s position would be explained to her. Simply put, the very limited number of Peter Pandas have already been spoken for by previous customers. That said, I would ask for her contact information and permission to forward it to the other 12 customers along with a brief explanation of her situation. There is a good chance someone would contact her and be willing to relinquish his/her hold on Peter Panda in exchange for a full refund of the deposit money. Should one of the 12 be willing to do so, I would request they coordinate a time come to the store together to complete their respective transactions (customer A receives a full deposit refund followed by customer B pays the full deposit amount). They need to come in together because they would need to sign a joint receipt acknowledging the events. This
