“Bullying is a big problem that effects millions of students, and it has everyone worried, not just the kids on it’s receiving end” (Lyness 1). Bullying does not just affect kids, but the parents too. It affects the parents because a lot of their children begin to be afraid attending school. In the novel Speak by Laurie Halse Anderson, Melinda was affected by being bullied lead her to think about suicide, scared of coming to school, and victims like Melinda begin to not care about school and fail. Melinda was affected by being bullied and led to many things and one of them is thinking about suicide.
Readers could argue that Twain’s main point of the novel was to be offensive. But either way, he did just that. Times have changed and that word has no longer become an acceptable word for people to use. Most African American students grew up being taught that it was a horribly offensive word, and to never use it. So with that being said, many students could feel uncomfortable hearing it at school.
Also be effected intellectually involves the teaching or schooling this certain person receives. If their teachers are racist and treat students off a different race not the same as others, a student academics could in fact be interrupted. An example of this mistreatment would be that of; “On Monday, September 23, 1957, Melba and the other black students go to school. They are again greeted by a mob of angry white people.” This is also an example of how the book uses literature to provide a sense of cultural awareness. At the point in time people were very harsh and unfair to those of a different race just because they were not the same color as the majority.
There are people who live in a secular world, worlds that is non-religious, but who identify, in their hearts, with Christianity. They are a breed of people who are challenging the Church to become ecumenical in its thinking and if the Church will not get out into the community to help others this group will be found doing the work of the ‘Church’. Pastoral Carers and/or Ministers have challenging roles that must include these Christians who will most likely never come into their Churches. The inclusion of these people will exemplify the most powerful form of love that could ever exist, a love that is unconditional and a love that does not come with wrong motives. The traditions of man must give way to this new generation of worshippers, worshippers who are not frequenting the Church but are in the communities helping, reading ‘spiritual’ books to help them learn about being great people, and having a relationship with God.
A student’s mindset comes from negative labeling from parents or teachers, or stereotypes based on race and class. Even though students get fixed mindsets from many ways, parents will be a major factor, parents always gives their children negative labeling which causes them to have peer pressure. Wilson High School students are violent and uncontrollable. Students there, look like they don’t care about the other students and the school. They create a revolution among them, because of their differences and their race. Some of the students are not respectful to each other and they also make fun of each other. Like in the movie, in on occasion, one Hispanic students creates a drawing were one of his classmates has big lips, referring to black people.

The teachers that have Crabbe in their class rooms are tough on him because they are preparing him for his adult life which is much different than his adolescent life.
It also had its negative effects on Atticus, when he was called degrading names like ‘nigger lover’ and being treated badly by the townspeople for defending Tom. His children were also persecuted because of his courageous act. Boo Radley was another man in the town who suffered severely due to the demeanour of others who had superstitions and judgements made up about him causing children to harass him just because he didn't want to leave his house and lastly Dolphus Raymond who suffered emotionally just because he lived with a black and had mixed children. These labels that are constantly put on us drive me insane. There is so much hidden in our family that non-members do not see. In addition to all of these stereotypes that are put on me and the others in my group, I do not like to show people that it bothers me, but these stereotypes have really given me a negative outlook on these people. The stereotypes that have been put on me have made me put stereotypes back on these other people. I now look at the outsiders as "city slickers" or I call them lazy and tell them that they have no discipline.
