Professional sports are no longer played on grass, dirt and hardwood floors but on calculators and cash registers. Pro athlete’s salaries must be reduced. Professional athletes are paid way too much. CBS Sports reported that in 2005-06 the minimum wage for a 2 year NBA veteran was $719,373; the minimum salary of $1,138,500 for a 10 year veteran. In the 1996-1997 season, NBA’s Michael Jordan was paid $33,450,000 for the year, or just over $1.06 per second, an outrageous amount of money for a player to play the game he loves to play.
While others will argue back because they believe they earned all of the money and could be that some are stubborn and hard headed. So lets get on with this debate and you tell me your own opinion on why they get too much money or they earn every penny they get. So to start this debate we will go over the pro’s of getting paid this much money and why they do. For instance some believe they are not over paid due to the risk of injuries that could put them out of the sport the rest of their life giving the reason why they get paid so much money. Also some will say they deserve the check due to all the work they put into it, because when the season is over they are still training and getting ready for the next season.
Wouldn’t it be amazing to make millions of dollars by playing one game or tournament? Well famous athletes feel they do. Many people feel that professional athletes are extremely overpaid. People feel professional athletes are getting to much money in a society where incomes are traditionally based on the value of one's work. Average Americans work standard hours and get paid a dismal amount compared to an athlete.
Athletes in today’s society that pass up college to play pro sports are making a bad decision. A high school player that goes straight to the pros does not have enough experience. Sure, we hear about the high school students that went pro and had instant success like Lebron James and Derek Jeter, but these are only a fraction of the thousands of players that go pro each year. 85% percent of the athletes that go pro out of high school are unsuccessful and end their careers after just five short years. They are not ready to play side by side their professional counterparts because of lack of experience and immaturity.
21/11/13 Should footballers be paid more than soldiers? Ikrah Batool Is it really fair that footballers get paid so many millions more than a soldier does in a single year? Thousands of soldiers put their lives at risk for the safety of your country, slaving day in day out with minimal rest, sleeping in the horrendous heat and fighting in the freezing cold in the night. Whereas footballers just train for ninety minutes a day and then go home to their nicely warmed and cooled pad and rest. And this is what footballers get paid hundreds of thousands of pounds a week for!
How are they going to pay for particular expenses by coming from a penniless family? Because of this you have athletes accepting illegal things such as money, cars and clothes. College athletes ever year bring in at least millions of dollars due to products and the games played. And the athletes that do can leave college and go pro they do because they are living in near poverty. College students should get paid because of all the income they bring in for their school while playing.
In today’s society professional sports and professional athletes make tremendous amounts of money due to us citizens. The money we pay to watch professional sports all goes to the teams, the money we spend on food when were at the games go to the teams. Since pro athletes make such a huge amount of money from our support cheering them on, shouldn’t pro teams and pro athletes pay subsidy taxes for social needs? I believe that professional sports and pro athletes should pay an amount of taxes for social needs. Professional athletes make millions of dollars every year and it isn’t fair for those out on the streets that don’t make money close to a pro athlete.
“Colleges and the NCAA generate more than $10.8 billion per year off of athletics” and yet, student athletes do not get paid at all for their hard work. They put in a great amount of time, effort, and work into being a student athlete. Being a college athlete is exceptionally laborious and can be both mentally and physically exhausting. There’s far more that goes into being a collegiate athlete than most individuals realize. Many people just see these athletes as the average student that in addition, gets to do what they love as an extracurricular.
During that time, the team made money, now they traded him away and the attendance drastically dropped, and the team is unsuccessful. The second reason, and the more important reason, is that there are certain people who are the best in the world at what they do, and those people make a tremendous amount of money. The best software programmers in the world are inhumanly wealthy, the best doctors in the world are unquestionably millionaires, the best lawyers in the world make millions every year, the best actors, musicians, writers, and virtually everything else make outrageous amounts of money, so why should athletes be any different? If you've worked your whole life to succeed in something, while others have wavered over their goals, you probably deserve to reap the benefits of such dedication
This is not true, athletes have to work significant hours just to stay in their professional league, let alone be a star. A great deal of practicing, working out, rehabbing, and watching game film goes in every day to prepare for the next opponent. Every week, they practice and play a notable amount of hours, most notably on the weekends, when most people don’t have to work. There is a huge amount of pressure on players to win every game, especially in cities like New York, Philadelphia, Los Angeles, Dallas, and other notorious sports cities. This pressure is raised even higher for rookies, who were stars in college, and also for superstars.
