Mill operators use wire cages to prevent the need to clean the cages. The cages are small with multiple dogs and puppies crammed inside to maximize the number of dogs possible. The more female dogs a puppy mill has the larger amount of puppies, allowing more money to possibly be made.
Dogs are often kept in cages, which may be stacked from floor to ceiling with multiple animals living in each one. The cages in which these dogs are kept generally have wire flooring, which allows the dog's waste to slick through the a collection tray underneath. This allows the operators of the puppy mills to save time by never walking the dogs or giving them the necessary space to naturally eliminate. In addition to being employed for deplorable purposes, these cages can also injure the dogs' legs and paws, and the conditions that they promote lead to disease. Mill dogs may live exclusively outside, where they are exposed to environmental conditions which harm them, or conversely live entirely indoors in cages.

Most of those cute puppies you see at a pet store come from one of these horrible places. Puppy mill breeders do not care about the health of their dogs, the puppies are just a cash crop to them. If more people were educated, and new the facts about puppy mills, and buying from a pet store, maybe we could change the awful statistics together. This weeks class we received an intensive over view of the K-9 unit. Both dogs who were introduced to the class had similar personalities and were Belgian Malinois. The dog handlers spoke to the dogs in dutch which was a decent feature because most Americans can not speak dutch, therefore they will not be able to control the dog if being attacked. Each dog listened very well and had a strong bond with each handler. The dogs bite was extremely vicious and if not in a suit one would have been severely injured.
