We are leaving in one of the most powerful nations in the world and we do not have a decent medical care system. I do not really understand how all this works but I see that in other countries people have more access to health care than here in the United States. In this country doctors and insurances are getting richer every day. In the other side, people are dying every day because they do not have money to pay for hospital and medicines. We need to reduce the medical care costs.
They argue that introducing private health care will lessen the burden on the publicly funded system as many well off citizens would simply choose to pay out of pocket or through private insurers for services rather than rely on the public system. They argue that the government cannot do it efficiently. At zero prices there is an increase in demand for health care services. This in turn causes the introduction of expensive technology which increases health costs. With taxes at a breaking point government has little recourse but to try to hold down costs.
This paperwork takes time from the doctor that he could be spending with the patients. Guidelines for seeing a specialist or for certain prescriptions have become very monitored. A lot of doctors have closed their practice to government funded plans because of the massive amount of paperwork and preauthorization’s that are required for the simplest of care. Not to mention the reimbursement rate is very low and much delayed. With the unemployment rates so high; more and more Americans have to go on a government funded plan.
Though healthcare is currently very costly, studies show that universal healthcare would be cheaper than the current privatized system (Conor). Healthcare acts as an umbrella: covering a group of people by spreading out healthcare costs amongst everyone under the umbrella. The problem with a privatized system is that the umbrella can fluctuate due to competiveness between insurance companies. The United States has a privatized system of healthcare; and out of twenty-nine countries, the U.S. is doing the worst when it comes to healthcare (Conor). There are many reasons why this is so.
It may or may not depending on what kind of insurance you have and how many hoops you have to jump thru before they actually authorize the medication or give you the okay for the technology to be used on you. In one article it is saying that the U.S. is one of the leading in health care technology. That we have machines that can save lives and that we have medications that can help us live longer with our diseases but it comes with a high cost. It is making the employer take most of the cost and the patient pay very little but is this really true. Most people have high deductibles before the employer will even start to pay some of the health insurance coverage.
The source of the issue is that there are too many veterans needing medical assistance and not enough resources to manage the demand in a timely manner, which causes overcrowding in Veteran medical centers country wide. Due to this overcrowding, officials who are trying to keep their jobs falsify reports; often times being rewarded for the falsified reports. It has been estimated that a large number of veterans have died stateside over the last several years. This is due to the way that several of Veteran Health Affairs medical centers administrations are mismanaged. Resulting in an increase in length of time veterans are being made to wait for their medical consults and their doctors appointments.
A Policy Change to Address the Health Care Problem in the United States “8508 USD”, that’s the amount the U.S spent on health per capita in 2011. This is by far the highest spent per capita in the world, but it does not translate to the best health care system in the world. In fact a deeper look at the U.S. health care system shows that it an inequitable and inefficient system which places a heavier burden on the poor than on any other group in the country. The brunt of the high spending on health care is born by the low income earners in the country, leading to unequal health utility and a further increase in the already large income inequality plaguing the country. A change in the U.S. health care system to make it more equitable and efficient
The bill is enduring a lot of vetting and committees within the legislative process. All this does is makes the implementation of the bill extremely difficult and bureaucratic. The reforms needed in the pharmacies, doctors and other health sectors possess a big problem as the transition is hectic and difficult (Bailey, 2008). Like many other ideas to better the people as a whole within this country, Obama Care has put the cart before the horse. I am not saying that the bill will not work or that it is not needed, I just believe that more effort and thought should have gone into the proposed plan and what implications it has on all involved before trying to go live with coverage.
However, I think due to the nature and large scope of this debate, people are beginning to lose focus on what the actual purpose and goal of this debate is. As the author mentioned that many people are zoning out because it is getting too complicated. I find it unfortunate but I have been one of those people. Every time I hear of the debate, it is brought up in a completely new light which totally confused be over time. However, after reading more and more about it, I can see that due to the long period of time given for discussion about this issue, focus has totally shifted from being about fair healthcare coverage for all people to the selfish reasons for which the debaters are picking their sides.
I feel this committee was able to work out all of our differences and make a better diversity in the workplace. I really enjoyed the last part of this article that stated, “Success is not going to be handed to them on a plate,” I feel that is the case in any situation you come across, you are the only person that has to take the first step in making yourself better. In my life I use my faith to push me even harder and stronger to overcome those situations. In comparison to my personal example, “Alix Carbon has been encouraged by her managers to push herself to up her nursing diploma to a degree qualification and attend other courses that she might not have believed she was capable of with encouragement.” I feel in this situation Alix used her managers to uplift and motivate her to better herself to show to others she was capable of doing what she thought she was unable to
