Why is it that so many intelligent people are considered lower that those who have no intelligence book wise? Society had made the image that the intellectualists of this nation have no place in the social aspect. In “America Needs Its Nerds”, author Leonid Fridman asserts that the American attitude anti-intellectualism must end for America to remain being a competitive force with other countries. Fridman was right when he said that geeks do not play a significant role in the society. One of his examples was that many foreign countries revere their professors and scholars, but in America we revere our celebrities and ball players.
He means that if the venture needs you to be anyone else but yourself, it will lead to no good. This reveals to me that Thoreau believes strongly in the individual, being yourself, and seeking your own path. This quote is also applicable to modern life because many ventures nowadays require you to conform for some purpose. The second aphorism I remembered is “Our life is frittered away by detail...Simplicity, simplicity.” Thoreau means that our focus and attention to detail now in society and culture do nothing but to waste our lives away needlessly. He believes simplicity is the better choice.
He didn’t think he needed to ask Express the moral problem so that everyone will believe that his or her moral concerns have been recognized and included. * This is a moral problem because his actions of using company funds for personal use wasn’t economically efficient productive system, it didn’t produce more of the products that people most want an less use of the resources people least value, which is a definite value to society. In addition to this, his actions wasn’t informed to everyone. * Effective use of resources, What are the economic benefits? * What are the legal requirements?
EST1 Task 1 A. Evaluate Company Q's current attitude toward social responsibility. The company’s current attitude toward social responsibility isn’t responsible at all. The fact that they are willing to allow food to be threw away that could be given to a food bank illustrates the company’s unethical approach to social responsibility. Placing profits above people isn’t socially responsible but is rather sociopathic and a microcosm of the larger problem that entails the current Capitalistic system that is used across the world.
In other words people like their own ways better, and does not like to be corrected for what they do not understand. There is an old saying “Earth provides enough to satisfy every man's need, but not every man's greed” (Mohandas K. Gandhi) some countries will inherit imperialism because they would want to benefit from others but does not want others to benefit from them. They will fight for what they want, but not for what is right. In the poem by William Jennings Bryant “Take up the sword and rifle, send forth your ships with speed, to join the nations’ scramble, and vie with them in greed;” (Document D). This expresses that there will be disputes that will start because of each countries greed.
It is basically a win for the U.S because we take advantage of people, by promoting investments we know thecountry will never be able to pay back; because of the interest and the amount of the loan.It is amazing how a group of individuals can make so much influence and cheat countries around the globe, and funnel money from the world bank in order to do so. It sadden me how they can damage a country, and how they are taking peoples dignity and culture as well as their lands. This clearly shows how economic growth and development doesn’t benefit everyone in a country, for example the indigenous tribes that were being forced of their land for oil.It seems that governments, big business and the banks will stop at nothing to get what they want. They get away with it because we all live in a state of ignorance. I wonder when we will say enough and demand that these institutions conduct their business with honesty, integrity and complete transparency. It’s no wonder that these countries hate the United States so passionately.
Lennie and George just want to be happy. They do not need a bunch of money to be happy. “We can live off the fat of the land” (346). This quote shows that you don’t need to be rich to be happy. For George and Lenniw, owning land and their own farm is all they can think about.
Social mobility – it is the primary effect of the American Dream, which itself is an idea that seems simple, but is strangely hard to define. At the root of it, is the sense of a society’s greed for success obtained by hard work, honesty, and modesty. If in fact this Dream were in the reach of anybody, then society would exist as a community where "all men are created equal" and everyone would have the opportunity of social mobility by doing the best for themselves as they could. But the reality of American society is cruel. A once high, mighty, and pure ideal has become degraded and buried by the merciless greed for money.
Americans spend their time chasing money and making sure they have power and the best luxury things ever made. They forget about the value of life and spending time with family. One the other hand the Amish are a small group traditional Christians. They don't use technology like other Americans. They believe anything can be done without technology; they are simple people who don't like help from outsiders.
However, there is collective identity, meaning that all members of the society can share. Collective identity is achieved by forcing everyone in society to conform. This maintains the society by making someone who has any individuality feel different, close to an outcast. However, the people in Brave New World long for their own identity as an example of Bernard, he has feelings and thoughts he is not proud of, “Did you ever feel you had some sort of extra power,” Bernard said to a friend while talking secretly (69). The “extra power” that Bernard is referring to is individuality.
