I miss the large lunches that are eaten at exactly noon every day. I love how all the neighbors have their radios on really loud, and in the evening it gets really quiet because everyone is taking a siesta. It is country where the people leave their front doors open during the day and you don’t have to call your friends to tell them that you want to visit. You just show up at their front steps. Life in the Dominican Republic is life without time. For the first nine years of my life, I lived on this beautiful island. I was one of the kids that would go to school, come home, and then would be running outside playing for the rest of the day. I thought that I would make friends right away and do well in school, but I did not. People were not only very judgmental but they would bully me for being different. At the age of nine or ten I could not understand why they hated me so much. There were many times where I would come home to my family crying my eyes out. It has taken me years to make good friends, but now that I have them I feel ambitious and more motivated. I am blessed that I have grown up very privileged with the opportunities in the United States to continue with my education. If I have stayed in the Dominican Republic, I would have never been the person that I am today. In general, I am someone that will try my hardest to achieve my goals. I know that my life has not been perfect, but I have tried my best to triumph despite what obstacles I am facing especially during my academic
