Senior’s usually lose their primary care physician, who is most familiar with the patient’s medical history and conditions, when they enter a nursing home. As a result of entering a new living environment, elders are given a doctor who has minimal knowledge when it comes to their medical history, and unfortunately physicians in nursing homes have an overload of patients and are constantly in a rush. Under federal law, physicians in nursing facilities are only required to see the resident once every thirty days for the first ninety days after a new patient is admitted to the nursing home. The patient made it very clear that she did not want the phlebotomist to draw her blood (Finnegan, 2013).This same phlebotomist has drawn her for several days for a Prothrombin Time (PT) and Activated Thromboplastic Time (aPTT) without incident, so he reports this situation to the nurse. The nurse informs the phlebotomist that the patient has formed a complaint against him and did not want him, in particular, to draw her blood. The blood had been drawn from the dorsal side of her hand for several days, which was now bruised and swollen. The patient complained of moderate pain, especially when she moved her fingers. Upon observation there was a diffuse ecchymosis over the dorsal side of the hand that extends up the forearm to the elbow.
The patient knew this colleague worked at the hospital. Over the next six weeks, the patient noticed an increase in cancelations of appointments with his patients. On the 22nd of April my mother got sick that I had to come home to take care of her I am her care giver I make sure she take her medicine, do her speech exercise, walk we her to the doctor’s appointment and also speak for her when she needs it.
