Andrew Felman English 2 Ms. Olbrych January 15, 2012 A True Story from the Sideline I was walking out of the away locker room in Ridgefield, Connecticut to play Ridgefield High School in the state semi-finals. My name is Tank Ruchum and I am the starting quarterback for Staples High School. I am a senior who is nominated for national high school player of the year. I look to my right as I am walking towards the field and see my coach, Coach Jupiter. I look to my left and see my best friend and star wide receiver, Slick Fells. We ran out of the locker room extremely confident that we were going to beat Ridgefield and get a shot to win the state finals. The game started and Slick and I were perfect. I knew exactly where he would be every play. Ever since I first met him in 5th grade pewee football, our chemistry has been perfect. His conservative personality and my risk taking, cocky demeanor allowed us to gel together perfectly. The game was going great and going into halftime we were up 17-3. Our defense was playing great and they could not stop us on offense. I felt unstoppable and on top of the world. Finally, the game ended with the score of 35-10. I slapped myself in the face to give myself some sense. I began to realize that even though I couldn’t play because of my injury I was still out there playing. I still helped the team win by drawing up the final play. I still helped the team win by teaching Lee about the offense. I was so selfish when I got hurt and didn’t realize I could still be a part of the team. Injuries happen to everyone, even the stars. Stars can leave their team as someone who is cocky and bitter or someone who really cared about the team. I know I tried my best to fix my mistake and leave the team thinking I was a star who cared for his team not just
