Personal and Professional Values ETH 355 June 22, 2015 Personal and Professional Values The organization I have selected for this assignment is the Army. The Army has seven core values that are instilled in every service member during basic training. These values are to help the service member understand how they should live their life on and off work. A service member is able to apply these values to every aspect of their lives. The seven Army values are Loyalty, duty, respect, selfless service, honor, integrity, and personal courage. All of the Army values aligned very well with my own personal values. I am a loyal worker. It is my duty to provide for my family and I respect everyone whether they deserve it or not. My selfless service is all of the foster children and homeless people that I help. I do not help these people to receive recognition or because I have to, but because I want to. I help these people because they are human beings that deserve a chance at a better life just like you and I. The only value that I did not agree with when it came to the Army was personal courage. Yes it took a lot courage to join the Army. It took courage to be deployed four times and sacrifice my life for my country. I always told myself that I wasn’t doing it for my country. My decision to join the Army had nothing to do with my patriot duty. It had everything to do with needing the job stability to help support my children. I cannot say that if the situation had presented itself that I would have taken a bullet for anyone or given my life for anyone during war time because I am a mother that had children and a husband to get home to. I raised my hands and swore to protect my country from all enemies foreign and domestic so for 10 years I continued in the Army.
