An example of this, when evaluating a patient I determine how many hours of a personal care assistant they will receive per week. I always think about the patient first before thinking about what is going to save my job money; and this is my constant struggle. Altruism is something I believe is the reason I became a nurse. Autonomy The state of existing or acting separately from others. My current job autonomy is necessary.
There needs to be focus on achieving a baccalaureate degree and further, just to maintain the ability to educate and continue to produce nurses. This too will also influence lifelong learning which the nursing profession prides itself on. (Lane & Kohlenberg,
Once in a while overtime may be beneficial, but logbooks indicate that it is been used too frequently in hospitals and other nursing facilities. In fact, a study has shown that of 5317 work shifts, 40% exceeded 12 hours (Rogers, Hwang, Scott, Aiken, & Dinges, 2004). In some instances, nurses are notified only an hour prior to knowing that they will be staying overtime. Nurses can be subjected to threats of disciplinary action or dismissal from their job if they refuse to stay the extra shift (Widowfield, 2004). This often leaves nurses feeling powerless over their work life as well as their personal life.
But out of those many nursing jobs, LPN (Licensed Practical Nurse) and RN (Registered Nurse) are the most common ones. If you are thinking of taking up either of these two, first know the difference between them, required education and traits, and then decide which one is best for you. Education RN: Aspirants have to complete a degree program to become an RN.
You'll also need to be be able to communicate difficult health issues effectively and courageously. 1 Education and training To work as a nurse in the NHS, you must be registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC), which means you'll need a degree in nursing. Diploma
Personal and Professional Goals HCS/301 May 23, 2013 Nancy Shultes Personal and Professional Goals The development of personal and professional goals helps one to generate the process of thinking about the future and to establish a clear path in achieving desired outcomes. Goals should be within reach but not an “easy win” and should include steps that are can be monitored (Dols, 2010). My personal short-term goal is to buy a used care and my long-term goal is to obtain a bachelor’s degree in nursing. My professional short-term goal is to obtain a Level III nursing status and my long-term goal is to work my way into nursing management. In order to obtain the goals I have set, I will have to determine the steps which are needed for each goal as well as any barriers that could alter achievement.
Personal Goals Paper Laura Robles HCS 301 February third, 2014 Karen Benjamin RN, MSN Personal Goals Paper My name is Laura Robles, and I have been a register nurse for almost 7 years. Becoming a nurse is one of the things I am grateful for since it gives me many professional and personal satisfactions. When I first graduated from nursing school, I wanted to take a little break and dedicate some time to my poor neglected husband and my little daughter, who was a year old at the time. Shortly after passing boards and obtaining my license, I started to work in the department of Maternal/Newborn where I have been working since. After all these years of dedication to my family and gaining experience in my profession, I decided that I need
I was admitted to a surgical intensive care unit in India when I was 15 years old for an inflamed appendix. I was so amused by the way the nurses took care of me and the other patients over there during my 3 days stay in that ICU and in my heart I decided I want to be a nurse. My brother went for nursing first in our home and all his explanations about nursing care, the surgeries, and case scenarios fascinated me to pursue my dream. I followed him and my younger sister followed me to become a nurse. The financial conditions of my home did not allow me to go for a bachelor’s degree at that time as it was very expensive as we all were in nursing school at the same time.

When I look at the career opportunities available within the health care, a lot of the positions are looking for people who have the necessary degrees and who also have the experience in their work past. So if I use my degree to continue on my path in the insurance agency I have the experience going for me already and now that I have my health administration degree my opportunities in the company will open up for sure.
