The adventurous dreamer dares to go after his personal legend and has and unforgettable quest that takes him from Spain all the way to the Egyptian deserts. He showed his desire to make his dream come true overcoming many obstacles. Santiago wanted to see the world learn about it and have adventures but his parents expected him to become a priest. “One afternoon, on a visit to his family, he had summoned up the courage to tell his father that he didn’t want to become a priest that he wanted to travel” (Coelho 8). After he told his dad he wanted to become a shepherd to be able to travel his dad gave him some gold coins.
So he and his friends start spying on his brother and his accomplices. Nothing turns up until Ranofer finds a golden goblet in his brother’s bed room with the name of a Pharaoh carved into it. The climax occurs when Ranofer follows Gebu into the Valley of the Kings and he finds himself inside one of the tombs there. He struggles with his brother, but he escapes and tells the queen that there are men in one of the tombs in the Valley of the Kings. The queen sends her army and they capture Gebu and
Harry Baily is the lead pilgrim and is identified as "the host," states that in order to win the contest the pilgrim must tell “tales of best sentence and moost solaas,” this means that the pilgrim which tells the tale with a moral lesson and must be entertaining to the group during the few days that it took to make their way from London to their destination (800). Chaucer was unable to finish his one hundred twenty tales he originally planned one writing and only completed twenty-four. The most noticeable of these twenty-four tales belong to two of the most beloved pilgrims by his readers and Chaucer himself. Even though "The Pardoners Tale" was entertaining and moral "The Wife Of Baths Tale" is obviously the more moral and entertaining of the two tales. "The Wife of Bath's tale" is the more likely candidate to win against "The Pardoner's Tale" in morality side of the host's competition, the more important of the two qualities.

Santiago chooses his Legend and opposes what most people have done; ignore their aspirations. His choice to deny the norm, rebuke his education, disappoint his family, and trust fate proves that he is born to pursue his Personal Legend, thus, initiating the plot. Notably, Santiago is born with an instinctual love for travel and he is naturally curious and passionate in his situations. Santiago’s parents vie for their son to be an educated priest so he can be a source of pride in their village but “ever since he had been a child, he wanted to know the world, and this was much more important to him than knowing God and learning about man’s sins”(Coelho 8). Family honour is important to Santiago’s parents yet he still finds knowledge of the world more essential than the struggle
However, the two boys are linked together by the phrase, "Next time you want a broad, pick up your own kind." Right before the Socs attack Ponyboy and Johnny, in the fight that results in Johnny killing Bob, Bob states the reasoning for the attack. He wants the Greasers to know their place in society, and to stay away from Soc girls. Later, in Chapter 6, Dally echoes Bob's words when he explains that Cherry is acting as a spy for the Greasers, adding: "Man, next time I want a broad I'll pick up my own kind." Ponyboy remembers Bob saying this not even a week before.
After every hardship the family encounters, Rex does more planning of the castle with his children that allows them to get through the bad times with anticipation for this new life, their father has promised. The children believe in their father and spend countless days digging a base for the castle. As the children grow older they begin to realize that the glass castle will never be built and decide to start making reachable dreams of their own. Through being let down by their fathers dream they are all successful in reaching the dreams they had set for themselves. Even though Rex knew that the odds of the glass castle ever being built were slim, he continuously gave his family belief that it would one day soon be built.
How Santiago Changes throughout The Alchemist In the book The Alchemist, Santiago, the main character, changes from the beginning of the book to the end of the book. In the beginning of the book Santiago is just a shepherd boy who is looking for a girl but when he learns of his personal legend everything changes. From the beginning of his journey, Santiago has been somewhat practicing alchemy, he just didn’t realize it. While going against what his parents wanted him to do, they still supported him by giving him money. When Santiago has his dream, he pursues it by finding a women who interpreted dreams.
Percy is granted a quest to find Zeus' Master Bolt which Chiron believes Hades has stolen. However, Zeus discovers Poseidon's broken oath and believes Percy stole the bolt. Percy has ten days before the summer solstice to find the symbol of power of the king of gods, and he is given magic shoes as a "gift" from Luke before leaving. However, Chiron tells him that it is a bad idea to use the shoes since Zeus might blast him out of the sky, so he gives them to Grover. Chiron hands over a pen to Percy, informing him that it is a gift from his father.
