Participating in team sports helps to develop good character. Do you agree?
Team is a term that explains when “together everyone achieves more.” Therefore I think participating in team sports do help to develop a good character. For a single player it is hard to target the goal but if they are all together then achieving the goal becomes easier.
Participating in team sports helps teach discipline, which is something every person needs to include in their lives. There are several meanings for discipline but one definition is “to bring state of order and obedience by training and control.” Training and control are both learned while playing sports. It also takes self discipline to practice, because it introduces the same routine daily.
Working on a team is not something that’s just good for sports; teamwork applies to almost every aspect of life. Teamwork also helps how to work in group, how to behave with others and how to achieve a good sportsmanship. Teamwork is also a very useful character trait. It is because this character trait can be used in many different parts of our life. It helps us to be more social. This is a skill that will be very valuable in the workforce, as most people have careers where they need to talk and work with others as a team. The athlete also learns how to handle stressful situation by making quick decision. They are able to do it because when the athlete is playing, he has to make quick decisions on where and when or to whom to throw the ball.
People who will refute the statement “participating in team sports helps to develop good character,” may say that sports is just for fun and a wastage of time, but those people are wrong because they don’t know the consequences of participating in team sports. In contrast they also say that no lessons are learnt from sports. What they say is ridiculous because whatever an athlete learn from participating in team sports are not straight forward.
