Many adults argue over whether or not high school students should have part-time jobs. As a high school student, I believe that we should not have part-time jobs. First, part-time jobs could get in the way of school. Also, students may not take the job seriously. Finally, students should only have a job if there are financial issues in the home. Part-time jobs may, in some way or form, get in the way of school. Students might not be able to do homework because it is too late, or they might fall asleep in class. This will negatively impact their school life. Some jobs will have kids working till 9 or 10 PM! That is way too late for a kid in high school to be doing work that is not helping them with school. Maintaining a job requires you to take the job seriously. High school students might not take the job seriously, either they will call out or they will be late all the time. High school students might also be unproductive in the work place and not performing their job duties. That in turn, will hurt the business that was kind enough to give them a job! Financial needs are the only reasons that there should be for having a job. There could be many different reasons for financial issues. There might be a parent who can’t work due to a disability, or a parent could have lost their job and can’t find work. There could also be an unplanned person in the household, whether it is a cousin, grandparent, or a newborn baby. There needs to be enough money to support the entire family. In conclusion, students should not get a part-time job unless absolutely necessary. It may get in the way of school. Also it could potentially hurt the business that was kind enough to hire them. The only reason for having a part-time job is if the household demands another
