Throughout the two works, without the guidance by adults, there is always going to be conflict and disruption. While there are similarities, when broken down it is easy to see why the children in “Kid Nation” were able to succeed to an extent, while the school boys in “Lord of the Flies” failed miserably. When comparing the two works there are a few key points to why one civilization succeeded while the other did not. In the novel “Lord of the Flies” the children start with absolutely nothing to work with. These children had to hunt, gather, and create all the amenities that are required to survive by themselves.
The story is about a boy born with autism and Jose a single father raising him throughout his daily life struggles with society. The time, love, and devotion a father gives his disabled boy cannot cure him but help him get by each day. Mario Garcia’s short story, “Poolman” argues that although society may believe that raising a disabled child is a tragic sacrifice, it is mutually beneficial. The story also argues that society does not always understand how to treat a disabled person. The story finally argues that the love of a parent is powerful enough to overlook nature’s flaws.
We're English; and English are best at everything. So we've got to do the right things" (42). Merridew still considers himself a British boy at first. His mind is still under the influence of civilization because he has just arrived on this isolated island. Jack definitely believes that rules are necessary in a community and that men must follow the rules.
More than anyone, a boy needs his father to approve of him and teach him how to be a man. Well, his father did not show him the love he required growing up. In all of Paul’s efforts to please his father, he was ignored and inadequate to his father’s expectations. In fact, his father praised a young man that worked as a clerk and insisted that Paul ought to be more like that gentleman. His father refused to give Paul money and argued that he has a job, so he can pay his own expenses.
This gives it a completely different twist, and makes sure that in this case we will think positive things of the inferior person. The boy is eight years old, and is a loving and carrying boy. He lives in a house with his mother and her new man, Jim. Even though Jim is awfully nice to the boy, the boy cant really go beyond his limits and bond with Jim, because he isn’t the boy’s biological father. This indicates that he lacks the love from his real father.
That is, if they survived. This book focuses mainly on a specific group of young men that voluntarily enlist. The young men were recruited right out of high school so they have experienced little and have much to learn. These men didn't realize it then, but the transition from a carefree high school student to a soldier on the western front was going to be painfully difficult. They are told to forget about everything and focus solely on being a soldier.
Society is what keeps us from becoming savages, and the only thing that held back a small group of kids stranded on an island was the leadership of one boy. A twelve year old English boy by the name of Ralph in the novel Lord of the Flies by William Golding held together a small group of stranded boys on a deserted island. As it sounds, this was not an easy task, and he was challenged by defiant children that eventually refused to obey him. When someone is disconnected from society, he/she can slip into savagery, as described in this novel. Ralph, however, is resilient; first he assumes leadership, then, in a final act of weakness, fighting to keep it and bravely fighting for his life.
KR-J1: In “The Kite Runner”, by Khaled Hosseini, family was very important. It was a recurring topic that made its way in just about every chapter of this book. The family that was focused on was that of Amir, and his father who was known as Baba. Amir was a child that did not feel accepted by his father, and felt the need to impress him at any moment that was presented to him. Baba was a typical father that expected his son to be into athletic things such as soccer and such, and when Amir tried things of that nature, he felt bad because he was not as good as Baba had hoped.
Jim’s self-concept is, “I just want to go to school and do the best I can and be normal.” Such as hang out, party a little from time to time, basically living his own life not the life of his father’s. Well I totally can relate to Jims father because, we as parents work as extremely hard for our children because we only want what’s best for them, is it right No, most defiantly not it depressed Jim because he feels like he is doing the best he can do, and his father just don’t understand. That it isn’t as easy for him as it was when he was in school. Jim’s father self-concept of Jim is more positive because he sees in Jim what Jim isn’t able to see, he is motivating him to do better than what he is doing. Sections such as motives, Jim’s father motives were to get good grade and be accomplished.
