In the understanding of success, people focus on personality traits, intelligence, innate ability, and hard work. After I read the book “outliers” by Malcolm Gladwell, I realized that to become a successful person is not that simple; in fact, the result of succeed involves with many outliers. The book Outliers by Malcolm Gladwell inspired me of how people became succeed with any of the outliers. According to the first two chapters of the book, the “Matthew Effect” and “The 10,000 Hour Rule”, Gladwell discusses how hockey players become professional in Canada based on their birth month. Those hockey players who are born in the earlier part of the year will have a huge advantage in physical maturity comparing to others. Gladwell also introduces us to the “10.000 Hours Rules”, a theory that purports that 10,000 hours the amount of purposeful practice time it takes for a person to become successful at something. Beside on the hard work, the opportunities have a huge effect on people’s success. In the following essay I’m going to talk about my understanding of the theory of success in chapters one and two. According to Gladwell’s theory; success comes with the right circumstances and opportunities. In the book “outliers”, Gladwell writes about the Canadian hockey players who were born in the earlier part of the year will be more successful than the rest. The research and the experience show that the best hockey players were not born with their innate athletic ability. For example, here is the roster of the 2007 Czech Junior hockey team at the world championships shows that 50% of the hockey players were born in January, February, and March; the best hockey players based on the month which they were born. Kids who are born in the early part of the year will get more opportunities to work on their athletic skills. The idea was for those kids who are born in the cut-off
