Clara immersed herself in church work to “keep busy” and help the community around her but never had “deep religious feelings” towards Universalism. She had trouble in the idea of the joy there should be in life with the amount of grief that was present in the lives of those around her. Although Barton never claimed to have no faith, she described herself as being more of a “well-disposed pagan”. By Barton’s own standards of living up to her religious morals, I believe that she did as she thought was right. The words of her father while on his deathbed seems to be what I felt Barton lived by in her life; “As a Patriot he bade serve my country with all I had, even my life if need be; as the daughter of an accepted Mason, he bad me seek and comfort the afflicted everywhere, and as a Christian he charged me to honor God and love mankind”.
Maggie has a close relationship with her mom; they seem to share a lot of the same views. Maggie has learned to appreciate her heritage and does not wish to change it. To Maggie, the quilts are anything but simple scraps of clothe sewn together, they have so much more meaning. Maggie shows in the story that she does not want the quilts as merely just a reminder of the important people in her life, she wants them because they are a representation of who she is and her past. Maggie wants them for sentimental value, she admits to putting them to "everyday use."
Ruth demonstrates her faithfulness to Naomi, by refusing to leave her side and displaying a strong and willing commitment to her mother-in-law (Ruth 1:15-17). Additionally we see another act of faithfulness which is shown through Boaz, he keeps his promise to take Ruth as his wife (Ruth 4:9-10). The unconditional love that God desires all of us to attain is shown through the faithfulness, kindness, honor and security within the book of Ruth. However, redemption is the fundamental theme in the book of Ruth. Boaz, Ruth’s “kinsman redeemer” rescues Ruth and Naomi from an impossible situation.
She states that she doesn’t necessarily like working but she likes the fact that she works and can support herself and her children if needed. Weaknesses: T. Smith’s states that her insecure about her appearance, and that she is too kindhearted to people that do not deserve it. Connection: I picked T. Smith for several reasons. First, I have known her for four years and has become quite close to her. Second, she is, on the outside, everything I wanted to be.
o Recently, I read the book " The Hiding Place" by Corrie ten Boom, edited by John and Elizabeth Sherril. While reading the book, I was noticed a pattern of major Christian qualities that Corrie possessed. Through her life story, we see her compassion toward others, her concentration on God's Will, and her godly character that challenged the lives of countless souls. Corrie never forgot that Israel was "the apple of his (God's) eye" (Zechariah 2:8). For that reason, she tried to service the Jews as much as they could - keeping in mind that Israel is God's chosen people, and she was to obey God's commands.
During her time when she was lost in the wilderness she states, “I cannot but admire at the wonderful power and goodness of God to me (112).” She wasn’t afraid to admit her faith; she confesses it throughout the entire narrative. Scripture is stated often and it goes to show that she is in admission to God. Even during just the beginning of her trials she shows she has faith. “But the Lord renewed my strength still, and carried me along, that I might see more of his power, yea, so much that I could never have thought of, had I not experienced it. (101)” Even during that statement she confesses that if she had not experienced this situation she would have never thought of God’s power carrying her
Her friend, Kara, presented her to Jesus and showed her that she can still be a cool person, even if she made God apart of her life. Her Christian friend also gave her some words of advice. “You’re down now Jordan, but only for awhile. I think God is giving you a chance to really look at life and decide just how you want to live it” (Carlson 134). Kara gave Jordan numerous examples of how God has helped her throughout her life.
The first example is “save your people” and “be their shepherd” both show the want for His salvation. Secondly, “bless your heritage” in line one carries the same theme as “carry them forever”. Those excerpts both stress the importance of sticking to your roots. The psalmist wants for Israel to be guided from Her shepherd forever. In conclusion, the message that Psalm 28 has to offer is that the people of God can pray for aid in times of need to their Lord.
Because David asked for mercy, God extended mercy to him and his wife Bathsheba, according to 2nd Samuel 12:24-25. In addition, God loved on Solomon, who was the son of David and Bathsheba. So therefore, it reflected that God bestowed mercy on David in spite of the sins that he committed. The key words in the scriptures that are connected with mercy are lovingkindness, love, and forgiveness. So therefore, David was thankful that God was merciful to him.
As we can see, Equiano became free with the help of self-reliance which is indispensable for those who also want to become free not only physically but also mentally and spiritually. You need this skill because there are occasions in life where you are alone; no one stands behind you and makes the choice instead of you. Christianity is also an important factor in Equiano’s life. As Martin writes in the critical reading ‘God helps those who help themselves’ (Martin, 257). Belief is a clambering for everyone just like for Equiano.
