In the speech written by Patrick Henry he is trying to declare that the American people are under British rule, and are being completely controlled. Patrick says through his speech that if we do not fight now there will eventually be nothing to fight for, because the British rule will take over. In the speech by Benjamin Franklin he talks about some parts of the constitution approve, he believes that the government is right for the people but it was truly not made for the people. These speeches were both written to solve a problem, these two brave men ready to do something to fight that problem, to try to rise against the odds and skirmish for what they believe in. In the speech written by Patrick Henry he starts by setting up others to listen to him by talking about patriotism.
Indispensible Man As tensions where on the rise between the great nation of England and its dissenting colonies in America rose, the infant nation demanded liberation and self-sufficiency. Uprisings and outrages forced British soldiers to swiftly suppress the American desire for complete separation from its Mother Country. George Washington, a young Virginian, not only possessed superior traits that separated his leadership abilities from other prominent men, but exemplified American valor, strength, and willingness to fight for a cause. Washington’s indispensable traits are his previous life experiences, coherency between long-term goals and short term actions, ambitiousness, and moral and intellectual capacity. George Washington’s ambition enabled him to conceive new concepts that would facilitate the American cause in the rebellion against the English.
On the other hand, the nobility had many rights. Today it’s greatly known that the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution were well influenced from the Enlightenment. The Enlightenment thinkers argued against these traditions, and called for individual freedoms, governments of the people, and religious freedom. They were "enlightened" because they believed that humans could answer questions for them, and sought ways to put this philosophy into practice. John Locke, an Enlightenment thinker, highly influenced the Declaration of Independence.
It is a wide held belief that this symbol is beyond the reaches of civil protest and should be worshipped like a deity. The United States Supreme Court has ruled differently about this and the next three court cases will explain why. The first court case that will be discussed is Street v. New York. In 1968 the Supreme Court heard a case in which the defendant, Sydney Street was so outraged over the attempted murder of a civil rights leader, James Meredith and the lack of police investigation of the crime; he burned an American flag in protest and stated “"Yes; that is my flag; I burned it. If they let that happen to Meredith, we don't need an American flag (Street, 2013).” It was against the law in New York to desecrate or speak against the flag; he was arrested, charged, and convicted.
In the selection of Wilfred Owens poems compare the ways he suggests the war is futile? Wilfred Owen was born in March 18 1893. He had written poems that was against the idea of young men going to war and the people agreed with what Owen was describing “the terrible conditions of war”, unfortunately, Owens poems weren’t published until the war had finished so it would not affect the way people felt about going to war which could have led to the German’s winning the war because men the English men would have been too scared. Owen wrote his poems while he was in care in the Craig Lockhart hospital after getting shellshock (as reporters have said) writing phenomenal poems such as, Dulce et decorum Est, the sentry and futility. Gun Control: Why Must The Government Step In? Gun control has always had problems since the 1100s. It was never guaranteed if they were going to fire or jam. During that time period the government was already fighting to have guns taken away from the citizens. Due to the all the issues that the American people were going through, the government came together and wrote the second amendment and put it into act in December of 1791.The constitution was put in writing for a reason.
The search for a national identity and a spirit of nonconformity had entered the hearts of many Americans, such as writers David Hume, Henry David Thoreau, George Putnam, and Frederick Henry Hedge. Led by Ralph Waldo Emerson, the progressive philosophy of Transcendentalism took shape in the 1820’s and 1830’s, and its proponents began to question the validity of religious doctrines and protested the intellectual institutions that were in place. Transcendentalism gave America the literary identity it was looking for, and Emerson was the most prominent and distinct voice among the Transcendentalists. Emerson played a major role in steering American literature away from its traditional English background, and called the American citizen to action by promoting the idea of individualism and man’s connection with nature. By challenging conformities created by society, celebrating trust in one's own mind, and designing a practical path to peace of mind through logic and reason, the writings of Ralph Waldo Emerson most clearly define the ideals of Transcendentalism.
Despite the efforts of many to encourage Hitler’s appointment, there was no intention of forming a permanent leadership with him; the elite groups around Hindenburg planned to use Hitler to gain his support base, then abandon him when he was no longer needed. This was a huge misjudgement, particularly on Vice-Chancellor Papen’s part: a month after Hitler’s appointment, he told a conservative friend “within 2 months we will have pushed Hitler so far into a corner that he’ll squeak.” Papen completely underestimated
Wilfred Owen uses contrast in this poem to help show the major changes for example “ There was an artist silly for his face, For it was younger than his youth, last year. Now, he is old; his back will never brace” This talks about before the war he would have people wanting his picture. But now no-one wants to see him, he looks old even though he is still young and his back will not support him. Many soldiers lost their limbs in battle and this poem helps people realise the pain the soldiers went through both physical and mental. “Mental Cases” is about the men who went crazy due to the events of World War I. it helps explain how these men looked with the use of half-rhymes, metaphors and similes “ drooping tongues from jaws that slob their relish, Baring teeth that leer like skullls teeth wicked?” This talks about what the men looked like after going crazy.
