After the Wall Street Crash of 1929, the United States were forced to call back the money they had loaned Germany in 1924 and 1929, leaving the Weimar Republic with no resources to invest in the economy. The Germanic growth over the last years had been an illusion, as a great deal of the capital invested had been coming from overseas loans. As the money borrowed was paid back, Germany was once again facing bankruptcy. Unemployment, which was not a major issue in 1929, dramatically soared by September 1930 1.

They could also start up their industries again. This could only happen with loans from America. In October 1929, the price of shares on the ‘Wall Street Stock Exchange’ collapsed and many Americans and American businesses went bankrupt. Now at this time, America was still loaning Germany some money but as they became bankrupt, so did Germany because the USA had pulled back their loans to Germany and expected Germany to also pay interest. Germany then fell into a deep economic depression.
However in 1929 disaster struck as banks went bust and share prices hit rock bottom. The roaring twenties, the age of excess and the Jazz age. These are just a few nicknames that were given to the 1920’s. To some people the 1920’s in America were the best of times, to others it was the period when things were wrong. People have such different opinions about America in the 1920’s for a number of reasons. When America became an isolationist it turned its energies towards creating an economic boom.
In the late 1920’s a change in the economy started, this change is now known as The Great Depression. The downfall of the economy started with banks and stock-market insecurity, and halted with President Franklin Delano Roosevelt’s New Deal. This revolutionary reform attempted to improve our nation by re-establishing American’s faith. Although not everybody regained the faith, the majority of people devoted to The New Deal rebuilt themselves, our economy, and the overall government. Without the help of our 32nd President, often called by his initials FDR, America could have ended in anarchy.
THE GREAT DEPRESSION BY: JASMINE SARVAS HISTORY 20 ESSAY January 14, 2011 THE GREAT DEPRESSION The Great Depression came about because of three main causes, in my opinion these three causes were not properly dealt with which could lead to the United States falling into another depression similar to the one in the 1930s. The first obvious cause was the deflation and inflation within the economy in the United States. The cause that immediately followed was the demand for product. This led to the last cause which was unemployment because of the nation being over loaded with product and lack of money. Most people think that the Great Depression started with the stock market crashing and it changed the way United States worked.
