Everyone on the ranch called Curleys Wife a ''tart'' because she flirts and the ranch men said ''Shes got the eyes''. Nobody on the ranch understood Curley's Wife and seen that Curley made her life very unpleasant, the only reason Curley's Wife flirted with other men was because Curley made her feel so isolated and alone. Another link is how she was “heavily made up”, and she had “full, rouged lips”. They was she acts around the other men on the ranch was disgusting for a married woman. She was constantly flirting with them, for example she said to Lennie “Nobody can’t blame a person for lookin’” implying that it’s okay for Lennie to look if he wants. She was also always running away from Curley at the same time. Curley’s wife would always try to show more of herself, and of course the reaction of the men was to call her a “tramp” and a “rat trap”.
Whereas she seems to belong more in glitzy and glamorous world, in an easy and out going life. The ranch hands, as seen from the fact that she is given no identity of her own as she is dubbed “Curley’s wife”, objectify her. She is the only woman in the ranch, which isolates her even further since she has no one of similar views and interest to talk to. She is vain, flirtatious and very gullible, which is easily picked up on since she believed out of her own delusions that her mother hid the letter, which told her if she was going to become an actress. This causes her to enter a loveless marriage with Curley, which she believed in self-delusion, was going to provide her a glamorous lifestyle.
The author makes it clear that the men think she is not worthy of respect, and believe she is simply ‘jail bait’. Additionally, she is referred to as bitch, poison, a rattrap, good-lookin’, and purty. So while she may be attractive, it simply serves to make the men more suspicious of her, thinking she has an agenda against them. Women were viewed as not real people, simply temptations or a source of pleasure. This can partly be blamed on the fact that many of the itinerant workers only knew women from the ‘cat-house’.
Because of her apparent sexuality, the men on the ranch ignore and never want anything to do with her. But because she is Curley's wife and Curley is an easily wound up former boxer, they see her as trouble. All of the men are sure that she would try to seduce them and then they would get in trouble and be fired by the boss. So, she's only ever allowed to talk to Curley and always feels lonely because of it. She doesn't like Curley in the least and doesn't enjoy being around him.

In the John Steinbeck’s novel “of Mice and Men” he introduces us to the character of Curley’s wife. She could be interpreted as a mis-fitting character in the novel as no one relates to her. Steinbeck relates her to how women were powerless during 1930’s and makes her seem desperately lonely and isolated from the others on the ranch. She has sexual power which she uses to get to the men on the ranch and she just needs someone to talk to. She dislikes her husband and had a desire to become a movie star.
The title "Of Mice and Men". Firstly Steinbeck portrays Curley's wife as a lonely character. Newly married and in a strange place, she is forbidden by Curley to talk to anyone but him. To counter this, she constantly approaches the ranch hands on the excuse of looking for Curley. The only result is that the men regard her as a "slut", and Curley becomes even more intensely jealous.
She is a lonely character constantly searching for attention, even if it is from ranch workers, cripples and the coloured. Curley's wife is made to show her disgust at married life by being 'married two weeks an' got the eye', this makes the ranch workers towards her bitter and unhappy as they see her as a tart who has no reason to be near them as she will only lead to trouble. Steinbeck uses Curley's wife's character along with others to show that many people of that time had dreams, hers was that she 'could be in the pitchers' we find out about her dream just before her death this heightens the impact of the news. She knows that she is no longer able to fulfil her own dream, as she is no longer her own person but Curley's, she turns her anger into the form of making Curley jealous by flirting with other men. She has no friends therefore has a lonely existence. Our first impression of Curley’s wife is by the men on the ranch and what they think about her. Some of the words the men use to describe her include ‘‘tart’’ ‘‘jail-bait’’ and ‘‘she got the eye.’’ These all describe her to be dangerous before we first see her. When we’re first introduced to Curley’s wife she is heavily made up with red lipstick and red ostrich feathers both of which symbolise sexuality as well as danger. She has a very flirtatious nature which makes her husband jealous.
