“My children, generations of the living . . . “This is the opening line to the great play Oedipus Rex. Oedipus goes through a live changing prophecy that was decided from the time he was born. Protagonists such as Oedipus are considered to be tragic heroes. Oedipus would be considered a tragic hero because he goes through a many reversals in fortune and because he is a good and brave person but not perfect and not evil. Oedipus goes through several reversals of fortune, such as when the city was dying from plague after he save the city from the sphinx. He saved a city just so that it would die anyway.
