The story’s been kept in perspective whether it’s viewed as the book or viewed as the movie. For instance, the background of the Rocket Boys - Homer, O’ Dell, Roy Lee, and Sherman were in Big Creek HS when everything happened (Quentin and Billy joined the group later.) Homer realized there’s more to his future than being a true worker to Coalwood after he saw Sputnik on the night of October 7th, 1957, so he decided to build a rocket. Homer’s friends decided to pitch in to help make this happen. When the one of the rockets was launched, it whooshed over to the mines nearby and bounced off the office building causing Mr. Hickam to be embarrassed in front of the men of the Ohio mill, Mr. Hickam then scolded his son, threw away the rocket, and got rid of the items in making the rockets.
This movie is about a mission similar to the Apollo’s where several astronauts are ready to take off to space, but there was a problem with the rocket so they had to fake it to make the public believe. All this to make a few billion dollars. Of course, this is just a movie and does not necessarily means that it reflects reality…but what it reflects does make the Apollo missions seem like a hoax and it reinforces the idea even though it is just a film. OCTOBER SKY ESSAY:-) In the film, October sky directed by Joe Johnston, the opening scenes are essential as it crafts the way of how the film flows and ends. October Sky is set in the town of Coalwood in 1957, where Homer Hickam and his three friends, o'dell, roy lee and quentin are inspired to build a rocket, after viewing the launch of sputnik. In the hope of fulfilling their dreams and making it out of Coalwood through other ways such as football scholarships instead of being stuck as a coalminer, Homer does face problems. Sonny knew he is different for other people because he is not good at football, also not interested work at coal mine, he can’t see his future. After he viewing the Sputnik soar over his hometown, help change his personality. It put him in complete awe and opened his eyes to human possibilities.

September 4, 2013 A Loss of Interest Charles Krauthammer expresses his disappointment for American’s loos of interest in moon exploration in his Washington Post article, “The Moon We Left Behind”. This essay is very informative, and fairly persuasive; Krauthammer keeps it entertaining by adding his own opinions and insights. Krauthammer’s main idea is how America has essentially abandoned the Earth’s largest satellite since our original obsession with it, brought on by President Kennedy. If we ever hope to discover any new information about the moon, or our solar system, we will have to send someone into space once again. Krauthammer sets an informative and persuasive tone by his use of numbers and dates.
