But during this economic recession, college students have been having a difficult time staying in the college path, especially working class students. The lack of moral support from their families prevents these unfortunate students to finish their college education. The increase of college tuition and limited financial aid are causing students to go into debt, making them hesitant whether they should keep studying or not. Also it’s preventing students from picking needed major but because the low paycheck they are not sure if they will be able to be sustained. But college drop outs also can able be due to the unequal college preparation given in high schools.
There are college stopouts due to race gender and not enough money to pay for college. Troubles with the economy have caused college stopouts to occur as well. Higher education, or college is getting more expensive by the years, and is becoming more and more of a pain to pay for. According to the article, “students from low-income backgrounds in particular may find they need to take time off from school to save money or to help their families pay their bills” (Terriquez, Gurantz, Gomez, 2013). With this being said with these students having to focus on their financial issues, it is going to be a struggle for them to afford both their bills and college cost.
Why I am in college, and my last English experiences There are many of reasons why I’m in college, and my last English experience is not what I expected it to be. Obviously everyone goes to college to get some type of degree. I’m planning on getting a bachelor’s degree in radiology and maybe extend the career on the way through the years. I’m the type of person that enjoys learning about the human body and how it works. I want to be able to have a good career and succeed in life.
When I decided to go back to school, knew that college would help me refresh my brain in certain areas that I may need improvement on. I also returned to school because I want a job that will fit with me. Since I have been out of high school, I have had quite a few jobs. The jobs that were employed at, I knew that those jobs were what I did not want to have a career out of for the rest of my life. So, after all the different jobs I had back to back and me not being satisfied with either one.
Erik Aguirre Humanities 31 Mr. Walzer Over the past several years, students have been confronting an extended amount of barriers stopping them from success in institutions of higher education. There is a wide range of obstacles that prevent student success, but the top two obstacles to success are made up by barriers of insufficient funding and insufficient advice and guidance from the colleges. Additionally, obstacles that are more insubstantial include lack of time management, family responsibilities, balancing school with work and last but not least poor work-habits. Receiving financial assistance to help pay out the costs of higher education is a main concern that many students say they seek in order to facilitate success in college. Concerns about having to pay tuition costs and covering other costs like books, supplies, transportation, and etc… become really stressing to students who are not eligible or whom received very little aid.
After all my homework and cheer activities are completed, my personal entertainment was also a big challenge for me to overcome. Since, I had so much going on I told myself to keep going and to conquer my distraction so I could advance in my nursing degree. Facing a lot of distractions in college I found that homework, athletics, and my personal entertainment are my biggest distraction to overcome in my nursing degree. After I finally graduated high school, I did not realized how important homework was until coming to college. When I showed up my first day of college I realized then how important homework really was.
Many were not motivated or properly taught by teachers, and in fact began to fail out or drop out of school. Most do not go onto College and most cannot afford College because of their low income families. In order to receive financial aid you must be a good student, and without the right education these students do not have good grades. It is a vicious cycle in our society that needs to be corrected. Possibly one of the biggest stressors for most college students is the considerable debt they will have to take on, in order to afford tuition fees and textbooks. More and more students have to pay for college on their own, or with little assistance from their parents. Quite often this is a source of great concern for an individual that is straight out of high school and may not be financially stable (Driscoll, 2011). At the same time as the debt alone is stressful, the need to service this debt can cause students to over-extend themselves. This means that they have to take on a second job or work long hours
It’s very hard to type a paper or study for a test when you have a nine month old that wants to get into everything. I honestly think that is one of the stressors that get to me the most so I have decided to get a babysitter when I have very important things to do like a big test or project. Another stressor I face is living with another college student and only having one computer, it’s very hard to choose who gets the computer when we both have very important things to study. This also can lead to arguing; only causing more stress. We sat down and worked out a solution we ordered a new computer, we only hope this helps us get more college work done and in a timely manner leaving us with less stress.
For example, numerous students have to pay for their college on their own. This gives them no other alternative bbut to take out student loans. Which could leave them in debt for many years. Another example of financial pressures for students is having to support a family while attending college. Supporting a family while attending college can be extremely difficult.
